16" Rubicons + CRD

I have been reading for about an hour about putting Rubicon wheels on my 05 CRD.

Anyways, really only want to do this for looks and looking at tire sizes a 245/70 will keep the accuracy on the speedo. I know reading it seems like some stealerships know how to change tire sizes electronically and some don't, so I want to make it easy as possible.

In reading, it seems like minor trimming of the fender liner might be required? If I would do a 2" lift would that prevent that?

Also can anyone post pictures of the Rubicons with and without lifts?

without a lift 245-70s will work although it will spread out the sidewalls a bit due to tread width, it also depends on the type of tire, a more of a mud tire with lugs may cause more problems, With the 245-70s you will not have to worry about doing the recalibration as they are close to original 235-70s
You could always do a clevis lift for 3/4 to an inch of lift in the front to give you some room
pictures below are of course on my lifted 04 gas powered :wink:

first with 245-75s
second with 255-70s
third 265-70s

and overall shot with the 255-70s on

265-70s look real good on the Moabs :wink:

If I'm not mistaken, the CRD's engine cradle sits 1/2" lower than our gasers, which should give a little extra tire clearance.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I have moabs on my CRD. I put on the daystar 2.5" lift and BFG 245/75/16 ATKOs. I had to beat the pinchwelds and do a fair bit of trimming on the inner fender and valence in the front. It prolly would have been fine with a rounder tire. The BFGs are pretty square at the shoulders.

Looks good tho.

FYI - I also have Moabs - but lifted & ARB
The only negative is that they're 8" wide
most of the tire sizes folks want to run 235,245's work better on 7" wheels

8" wheels are a better fit for 255, 265

I mean people can and do put 245's on them (Jeep did on the Rubicon) but the recommended wheel width is still 7"

Leave the 8" rims for 12.50's,I have my 35x13.50's mounted on 8" rims and they look just bright and better for offroad when aired down.The MOAB's look nice but you'd need 265's+ to take advantage of the extra width over a 7" rim.I have 265's(Trxus MT's) and they state to mount on a 7" rim only(branded on sidewall).

I agree even the 245-75s look to narrow to me on a 8 inch wheel, wish Moabs came in a 7 inch, but the 265-70s look good on them so run them until I get tired of the look :wink:

The sidewall on the 34x10.5 LTB's I sold today said use an 15x8J rim ...I think that is too wide for a 10.5 inch wide tire.

driving down the road none
out flexing a lot, depends on how long your bumpstops are but expect some, I had some with narrow 255-70s when fully flexed, thats why I am getting a trail set of tires/wheels

yea, i wanted to get a set of moabs and switch my firestones over to the moabs, and put my green wheels away so they dont get messed up. but my tires are way to skinny for an 8" wheel. they are just right ona 7" wheel, but an 8" would be wayyy to wide for them, it wouldnt look right, and if i aired down offroad, i could blow a bead really easy too im thinking
