I just looked at the top gear survey from Britain in 2006 and our beloved KJ got a bad score. http://www.topgear.com/content/carsurve ... /cherokee/

yes, by european standards its horribly inefficient. and they really aren't built all that well.

In 2006 the KJ was getting dated, 2002/2003 reviews were usually favorable. Then other similar cars came around and were usually rated better.

Its not too often you can call a jeep not dated though, its unfortunately part of their charm

And we are surprised that a 5th-year-model American vehicle scored low with Top Gear why?

And 1300ZUK, define "really aren't built all that well". Similar generation Japanese SUVs, IMO, really have nothing on the KJ for build quality unless they were double the price. the Sequoia and 4Runner come to mind.

Sure, they have more nifty cubbyholes where you can stuff junk, but that's all I can think of...

I get so tired of media i.e. consumer reports, foreign press, etc. bashing on American vehicles. You don't hear much about the various sludge prone toyota engines, the various piece of crap honda automatic transmissions, etc. Our jeeps will hold up as well as anything out there....(with the exception of those stinkin window regs!)

I never read any of those articles, waste of my time. Like ones in 4 wheeler magazines testing 10 vehicles against each other, I know what I like and what a vehicle does for me, thats all I need to know. Most all are written by one or just a few people so there views may or will be slanted.
So when you see one of these throw it away, don't click on it, don't waste your time

well maybe poorly engineered would be a better description, they are REALLY heavy for their size, the Front suspension had to be designed by apes and automatic transmissions with a mind of their own.

I have been looking around at 2002-2007 KJs on the roads and noticed there are still a lot of them and they all look to be in great shape. I have yet to see one blowing smoke...well, except a bit of Diesel Smoke at full throttle...or sounding like it was running on 5 cylinders. In general terms they seem to be holding up...

I feel like a lot of the reviews I read prior to buying my KK where written by people who have NO IDEA about off road vehicles. Of course it does not accelerate like a Porsche or Ride like a Cadillac. I would challenge either of those vehicles to a race though. One thing....they choose the first half of the course and I choose the second. As an off road vehicle it may not be the tip top of the line either, but to me it was the most capable vehicle with the best fuel millage combination (and a manual transmission which is important to me). I was never sure why these people were experts and why their opinion was so valued.

These are the same people that didn't like the Mercedes SLR Maclaren.

Said the dash looked cheap. Come to think of it, they never like any car. That's the fun of watching them.

Haha, one of the main reasons I watch it. Love every episode.

They did seem to like the Dodge Viper.

They also drooled over the Bowler Wildcat, but that's kind of a different situation, since it's a custom vehicle.
