cb engine noise

do you guys get engine noise?i had my cb hooked threw the cigarett lighter and had lots of noise so ran wires straight from battery and used a inline noise filter and boom still got it. it isnt all the time it comes and goes.

i had the same thing with my amp power wire and speaker wires, and i had to seperate them to each side. do you have any other wires that are running along with it?

The only time I heard about this what when the guy had his wired not directly to the battery. That solved his problem but obviously not yours. I have mine wired into my fuse box and into the constant rear electrical outlet and have no engine noise. So I'm not sure what to say...

Depending on your antenna location you might be picking up RF noise from the fuel pump. I originally had my antenna mounted on the rear gate but had to move it because I couldn't get the noise level down to an acceptable level - now it sits on a ball mount on the front left fender and it is tolerable.

My antenna sits on a ball mount front passenger side in place of stock antenna and like I said no noise.

Do you have an external speaker mounted for your cb? These are often known for engine noise when your radio is plugged into a 12 volt port.

Antenna mount locatiom can also play a part as previously mentioned.

Depending on what antenna you run, mods to the radio, and where its connected to for power, you may or may not get alternator noise, as well as RF from the fuel pump. After tweaking it a while, I still get some of it.

i got a wilson 1000 mag mount on roof close to the back. im powerd right from the battery.il have the radio on and it comes in for say 90sec then goes away then comes back and right when im tryn to hear some one and the noise blocks them out. i had a wilson little wil before and still got same noise.i got my cb mounted right under the glove box.had it wired to 12volt outlet and was doin it so ran to battery and same deal then got noise filter and still same.

Try moving your antenna to the hood and take a drive around to see if you still get the noise. It may be something in the coax as well,, has it had any kinks/cuts/damage at all?

I would also make sure that all you wiring is good quality with thick insulation.

ok still got noise and when i get the noise i tried unpluggin the coax and boom no noise so it is antenna related ..the antenna is good coax to it is a wilson 1000 mag mount with is on the roof close to rear. i also have a wilson lil wil and it does the same thing. maybe it is the location of the antenna?or where my coax runs which is from the back down pass side to my box under seat i dunno what to do. Anyone else run a mag mount on roof?

How about your ground? Sometimes a unproper ground can cause engine noise, as seen with Subwoofer Amplifiers. But your SWR could need recalibrating on your antenna. I'd personally have it looked at by a local CB shop because usually they can tune your antenna in perfect! I know when my dad had his in his truck boy he could talk from Altus, Oklahoma to Tulsa Oklahoma and that's quite a distance!

It's quite a common thing... it doesn't have anything to do with SWR... SWR is only tuning the antenna to minimize reflected power upon transmission.

If anything it would be ground... you have to have a good, solid ground, and you need to ground the heck out of your CB system.

Grab a multimeter and check the resistance between your CB and the body of your vehicle with everything running. Also check the resistance as you tap the accelerator to give the alternator some juice.
