grabber at2 vs. cooper discoverer st

Ok, I need some opinions on these two tires in comparison.

General Grabber at2

Cooper Discoverer s/t

They both seem to be in about the same category of very aggressive AT.

OK after talking to people out and about, reading on lots of other forums I picked the Cooper STs, little more open tread than that other :wink:

brand and everyone who runs them seems to like them pretty well. Plus it will make yours more unique since you will not have the regular what everyone else is running. For me I have never seen what the big deal is with the Grabber AT2s

thanks tom! thats the way i'm leaning too. read some really awesome reviews with zero bad reviews. i did see some bad reviews on the grabbers, usually having to do with wear and treadlife. one of which came from our very own RAYMAN(numbers?). but seriously, nothing but good reviews on the coopers. also my parents have had lots of coopers and i had a set of coopers on my acura, all with good results.

my moms grand cherokee that i used to tow the kj to your house in the middle of a snow shower had discoverer atr's on it and i was very very impressed with their stopping power in the slick stuff with my kj strapped to the back.

I voted for the Coopers as well. I like the tread design better in every way over the grabber. Looks better for mud, and rocks and you drive a jeep, not a minivan. I have never seen the grabbers in person either and I have the Coopers, and they looked like a decent AT.

you got it!

its been all winter driving since i got them. i can say they grip in ice and light snow much better then my MT/Rs did. I would assume that this comparison holds true for most MT type tires. I have not been in very much really deep snow, but drove through 12" or so unplowed with no problem starting from a dead stop. traction in the rain is also very good. once again, much better then the MT/Rs.

on the road, they make a bit of noise around 30 mph, but it goes away by the time you're at 35-40. the ride is a little harsh, but thats the case with any E rated tires on a KJ. they're pretty stiff, so they dont absorb bumps very well. otherwise, its smooth. no vibration or anything. i have not had any balancing issues.

treadwear seems pretty good so far, no noticeable anomalies or cupping or anything like that.

i have not had them off road yet, so i cant really comment on that. nor have they seen any mud.

Your Snow experience mirrors mine, but the wet traction with my MT/R's has been better than the Cooper ST's.

Strange.

But, they're a decent, long-wearing tire, and given the choice between the Grabbers and the ST's, i'd take the ST's.

I think I like the MTR's better all-around though:)

Where are the pics? I voted Cooper as well.............. Cooper (for some reason) is a huge seller out here in Western Kansas with the farmers, ranchers, gas line guys, oil guys, pheasant hunters, and everyone else who goes off-road.

I had to vote cooper, I had some Generals on my jeep and boy I was glad to get rid of them. Mine had started to sidewall out, and it sucked you would go down the road and it would sound like a flat. So I switched to Kumho's and I love them, but my first choice definitely would have been coopers!

one thing i forgot to mention:

they really like to flat-spot in the cold. its been really cold here. but, just about 100yrds down the road and its fine. just a note!

ATRs are 100% better than the Grabber AT2s, so don't feel too bad;)

I have no experience with the Coopers but the Grabber AT2's are the best tires I've ever owned. I can't get over how good they handle in the snow.
