I just finished installing my springs and shocks on the rear and while waiting for my buddy to return to help with the front, I decided to see what the KJ would look like without the Running/Nerf Boards. After much hassle, two floor jacks, and a can of PB Blaster they're removed. My question is do the metal mounting brackets that the Running Board bolts to stay attached (they're attached to the frame and below the door) or are those removed as well?

once those brackets are off, youll have more ground clearance and wont snag on them!

That project will have to wait for another day! I had to use two jacks to get the last bolt off of the running boards; one pushing up one a wrench while the other held the socket wrench in place. Even then it took a few tries. I'd definitely like to remove those brackets though and yes, they definitely looked better off than on! Enough talking - off to finish the lift into the wee hours of the morning!

took mine off last summer and snapped almost every bolt off with little pressure. (the crappy U bolts or as some call them M bolts) I can't find those bolts anywhere so I'm having a hard time selling the running boards without the mounting hardware :(

Just took mine off on sunday after fighting with them all saturday. Drug them over everything i seen till they bent and pushed into the rear tires. I still can't believe they put them of a 4x4. Worst design and thought ever. But i agree it looks much better without them and not hanging up on stuff is great. Now to build some rock rails to keep the body straight. 8)

It is only 10 bolts per side man. Took me no more than 10 minutes to get mine off laying in the apartment driveway. All the bolts are the same size so all you need is the one rachet. I wouldn't hesitate to do it laying in snow now that i see what a big difference it makes with them off.

yea i took mine off one one full piece, unbolts from the frame rail, and the other bolts on the inside of the rocker, brackets were still attached to the running board when i removed mine.
