After being a victim of vandalism... (yeah, some basteward broke my rear window and stole a 30 dollar jacket!) I couldnt help but noticing t hat the alarm system the liberty has just works when opening a door... NOT WHEN BREAKING WINDOWS!
so my question to you all:
do you guys know about an aftermarket alarm that will work with the KK?
which ones would you recommend?
thanks

I don't really understand the question . . . wouldn't any aftermarket alarm work? I had a cobra system on my acura, and I had no complaints. They are pretty cheap too.

Im worried about loosing some features/possible conflicts with an aftermarket alarm..
IE: factory remote start is almost always eliminated from the features of a car when installing an alarm.
back at chargerforums for a long time it was a hit or miss, until someone discovered a specific viper alarm that works in conjunction with your canbus... that day was a happy day for everyone!
so what Im asking is if someone has installed an aftermarket alarm in their kk's that works seamlessly with the canbus

Ahhh I see . . . thanks for clarifying. I guess just going with an aftermarket starter is probably a waste of money. I looked into a remote starter for my 6-speed and was quoted at around $600. And I meant Viper . . . not Cobra.

Aftermarket alarms are worthless, you ever pay attention to one that is going off? Plus with newer vehicles improper install,or shody install(IE not soldered connections),can lead to problems later(starting problems) and can effect any warranty on your electrical system if they tap into the OEM alarm system(which they need to do).

Best to park in a well lit area, don't leave anything of value in your vehicle or keep them out of site, and get good insurance.A alarm system will not stop someone that really wants to get into your vehicle.

Im actually aware of that but let me put it this way:
when my window was broken:
1.- I was eating some tacos with my GF
2.- the KK was parked in a well lit area
3.- the guy who stole my 30 bucks jacket slammed the window and I wasnt aware of it.
4.- to make things worse, I WAS WATCHING MY KK THE WHOLE TIME! HOW COULD THAT HAPPEN!?!??!?!
5.- If and only IF I have had an alarm At least I coulve noticed that someone was actually trying to get into my car

My first reaction is to look for an alarm and put some of that special film on the windows, the one that keeps the window on one piece??? you know the kind

thanks for your suggestions but vandalism is very bad in here :(

Id be happy if there was some kind of add on to protect windows on my kk
:S
anyways

Eating tacos... Is that some kind of euphemism? ;)

An alarm might be helpful, but tjkj2002 pointed out, there are risks installing an after-market alarm, and they aren't as effective as you'd think. You can also look at it this way, you are going to spend several hundred dollars, and possibly screw up your Jeep's electronics, over a $30 jacket. I know, next time it might be more that gets taken, but this might be the only time your Jeep gets broken into. Better to save the money you would spend on an alarm and use it to replace whatever gets broken/stolen.

A $1000 alarm system won't stop your vehicle from getting smashed. At best it will make a lot of noise and people may or may not bother to look to see which vehicle was hit, who is running, etc. But usually if someone breaks in they do it when there is no one close by anyway, so the alarm is all but useless.

Now... if you could somehow electrify the glass...!

WHOA?!!?! Aftermarket alarms aren't worthless. I've got the Viper with remote start and 2 way remote communicator. If anyone so much as looks at my Jeep the wrong way, the remote goes off (from up to a mile away) alerting me that someone has touched my jeep, and EXACTLY where they have touched it. Side door, rear door, if the hood is open, or trunk is open, etc. On top of that, I had the SEPERATE power module installed on a place on the vehicle that is not easily found or accessible. So when the alarm is going off they will not cut the power source. If they do try to start the car, the remote starter has a built in kill switch, so its a NO GO. I also had the PIEZO speaker installed under the steering wheel which is designed as a pain-inflicting siren, and trust me after hearing it for 20 seconds I can't stand being inside the vehicle with the alarm going off. Its a pulsing loud, HORRIBLE sound. So good luck jacking my stereo and keeping your hearing. And if my alarm does go off, I'll be at my truck within 30 seconds, so I hope they are ready. This being said...... after market alarms are deffinatly not worthless. It's a HUGE peace of mind for me, I transfered this alarm from my KJ to my KK and will have one on every vehicle that I own for the rest of my life.

PS - dont ever expect anyone else to look out for your vehicle, people are what make alarms worthless. Take it into your own hands.

I used to have a similar alarm system to FL in my old Subaru. Not as well installed as it would seem (no backup power, etc.)

BUT

As I learned the Hard Way.... even with an alarm:

nothing's going to stop a hobo from breaking a window to grab a CD. I've got nobody to blame but myself for losing ~100 CDs that day - i left them sitting on the back seat, and used to live downtown. Alarms are ALWAYS going off - nobody pays attention to them. My alarm DID tell me that the car was broken into... BUT by the time (maybe 3 minutes tops) it took me to get to my car from my condo.... he was LONG gone - or hiding really well.

Moral of the story?

Keep the rottweiler in the back seat!

I can confirm the fact that aftemarket alarms can screw up your electrical system bad. I had a 99 XJ (my brother now uses it as his second vehicle) and put an aftermarket alarm on it. When it was about 4 years old, I would notice the fuel gauge showing empty sometimes when I knew it was full. That escalated (in about 2 years) to none of the gauges (tach, spedometer, and odometer) working at all, and not to mention no a/c, stereo, etc. I took it to my dealer several times and hey could do nothing (the bill said they jiggled all the wires, haha). I even remember once driving to Rochester, NY (where I went to college) in mid winter with no heat, had to wear gloves and a hat!!! Anyways, I had a job transfer and gave the car to my bro, who knew of a jeep specialty shop near where he lives. They pinpointed it was the alarm causing all the problems and ripped it out.

The xj is back now, in fact I just drove it yesterday and it feels as good as ever. No electrical problems at all. Actually, on a good note, there are about 15 k miles on the engine that did not show up on the odometer, so I guess it would have better resale value, haha.

All I am saying is just be careful and if you notice electrical problems, rip it out before they get really bad....I would never install an aftermarket alarm on my KK after what I went through, but that is just me.
