I own an '05 Libby Renny. It developed an annoying squeak in the area of the rear window. I sprayed silicone lubricant on the entire seal, as well as the latch and the latching mechanism.

Now, the squeaking issue seems to be resolved, but there's a "clunking" coming form the same area. I tried to duplicate to noise, and by pushing on the window when it's closed, I seem to have been able to do so.

My question is, could the saturating of everything with silicone cause any grease, etc., to be removed from the latch/mechanism, and cause this "clunk"? I applied white grease and hope that will fix the problem. Or is it possible that the window could be out of adjustment and need to be readjusted by the dealer?

Thanks
Ed

I had a clunking noise on my YJ that I traced to a broken hinge. I realized its not the same but perhaps you can review both gate and glass hinges for damage.

The door latch stop probably needs to be readjusted- I have the same thing, just haven't tried to fix it yet.(The stop is the black piece on the jamb of the doorframe) It's not the window.

MTNGTO,

I think that's it. :? I've eliminted the squeaks, I hope, and I think in fixing that I may have slammed to glass shut too hard, and caused that latch to become misaligned. I'm going to see if I can fix it...if not, I have an appt. with the dealer on Thursday.

Thanks
Ed

If you can find a scuba dive shop, invest in a container of silicon grease.
Just clean off all the gaskets around your windows and doors and apply a small amount to all surface areas. You'll have to rub it in well, but the end result is worth it, you'll invest in a few hours worth of work. You can even apply it to the outter window gaskets around the front & rear door windows-it makes 'em shine as well as waterproofing. This will ensure that the rubber will have a longer lifespan. I've used it myself, and haven't experianced any squeaks. The silicon grease is pretty slick stuff, just a dab'll do ya - as you rub it in , you'll see the difference immediately.
I made sure I washed the entire Jeep first, if you get the grease rubbed into a dirt spot as you rub it in, it'll get kinda muddy....so you want to avoid that from happening.
Keep the shiny side up!
Frank
P.S. Don't use Vaseline as a substitute-It's petroleum-based, it'll attack the rubber. SILICON GREASE ONLY!!
