Location for Switches

Has there been anyone who has used the tray to mount switches. It looks like there would be enough room to mount at least 4 switches. I’d be willing to pay someone to fabricate a custom panel that would fit nicely in the tray area. Maybe long_tall_Texan would be interested in another project!

DE, I've been looking for an '03+ KJ bezel for that very reason.

If I get one and build something, I'll let you know

Ladies and Gentlemen, I just received a PM from our “Custom Cold Air Intake” fabricator, known as long_tall_Texan, and he is willing to help us out. I’ll be drawing up a few sketches and get the ball rolling.

I vaguely remeber someone doing this in the past, but I'm talking long, long time ago on the old server...

Looking forward to see what comes up this time...Would be a good use for a currently useless spot.

I’m hoping that we can select a particular set of switches that will be well-liked and useful for many users. It would make sense if a universal switch plate was made for all who want this type of set-up. Once the fabrication is underway, then it will be all about fit and function. Therefore, I will be looking at good quality switches that will work for many applications (lockers, compressors, lights, etc.).

i made one for my truck a year or two ago, i used 1/4" "starboard" from a marina. it turned out good.

too sleepy to find it now but I gave thunderbird junkie a list of places to buy quality switches last week or so

great switches and everyone says this guy has great service

I like the looks of his TJ switch panel if we could get something like that made up :wink:

I'd use this spot for my upcoming switch installs if I knew how to mount a panel in there or could find one already made up. Will be watching for updates too.

theres a lip, and a screw or two in the back

take it out, trace it, take a piece of diamond plate or something, cut it to shape until it sits in the lip and around the 12v plug, find a screw that will reach the hole in the backing there, find a piece of aluminum bar scrap cut it to length and drill it larger dia than the screw and use that for structural support, knock a hole in the back of the oem pocket for wiring and use a dremel to cut squares in the front and trim them till ya switches fit

sounds very doable to me boiler

between the lip and the screw and fitting around the 12v plug the plate wont go anywhere

I put Moroso switches where the ash tray was on my '02.

I was actually thinking of mounting a switch or two within the ashtray container itself. Basically I would make a plate that fit right below the ashtray lip after cutting out the plastic cigarette holder portion inside and fab behind it as needed. That way my switches would be hidden when the ashtray was closed and the dash would remain stock looking.
