Hey all,
I have been thinking whether or not I should get lockers front and rear for the KJ when I regear.
This is my daily driver, I am driving 2000 miles a month right now and most of that is highway. I get out as much as I can to wheel but it is not as much as I would like and when I do get out I rarely run into anything that I would need to be locked for. I know I could get out and find spots but most the people I wheel with are not locked, and not wanting to get that far into it.

So what are some other advantages of locking?

I am looking at DL and DTT.

well having just the DTT helped a lot but then so did the DL, my KJ is my DD and I have no problems with either one. I would definitely want both locked, especially if I went out and wheeled more.

That's like asking, "Should I get a 2 wheel drive or a 4 wheel drive?"

....................Of course you should get front and rear lockers................it's a jeep thing. 8) When I joined LOST ROCKIES, they gave me 12 months to get front and rear lockers to be in the Club, it's mandatory.

Sorry to hijack a post, but wouldn't a locker be better than a slip? so the dl (detroit locker?) be better than the dtt (detroit true track)... ?

You do not want a auto locker in the D30A since you can not "unlock" the front hubs.

Ahhhh, so your only option is either a slip, or a arb?

This has been in the back of my brain for a while now. In the front an Auto Locker won't lock unless it's under power. How is the D30A different than any other front axle with an autolocker. The Aussie in my TJ was invisible in 2WD, Clicked in 4wd while turning. Don't know how the KJ would be different. Sorry for the OT post.

correct, and the DTT is not quite a locker but its better then a LS its inbetween, but it is awesome and will improve your off-road ability a lot.

It's not in between anything, it is a limited slip.

Likely better than the slip that comes on the rear of the kj. And adding a slip to the front will help even more...

The D30A will not like you with a autolocker when in 4wd and turning while on the gas pedal and have traction at the same time.......................................BOOM goes the diff.

It's not in between anything, it is a limited slip.
The DTT is the highest torqued baised LSD on the market, which means it is "locked" until a certain torque rating is applied to make it "unlock".Most LSD's are about 1:1 torqued biased, the DTT is something like 2.5:1.You can also apply the brakes a little to fool the DTT into "locking",and yes this really does work, more so when in a front application.I have "locked" my front wheels even with one in the air with my DTT many, many, many times.

Would it be a bad idea to ad a DTT in the front when the rear has a the factory limited slip? Or is it a better idea to replace both at the same time...

If that is the one you bought you might want to check the spline count to make sure it match's your Liberty. The ad says 27 spline. Not that i know when the change was made or if all libertys came with a 29, but that is what mine has.

All Dana 30A's are 27 spline. Chrysler 8.25's in KJ's (and some XJ's) are 29 spline.
