Sounds interesting!!! I've been wanting to run this for a long time. I second the choice for the Mexican Border trail.

cool AJ, sounds like we're the only ones. :( I'll do some checking up to see what the "road conditions" are for that trail.

I'll post up some more info in the coming days.

If it's Sonoita, then me2. I have to leave for home the day after this run and it's too much for me. Good luck.

As if you were planning on driving all the way out.... :)

The problem is that everybody is suggesting a run, yet no body either wants to go to this run or that run. OAOKJ2, I can understand its a long drive, i too have to decline runs due to multiple trips "north".

I wasn't going out there just for this......LOL!!!......but was gonna tag along while out there on vacation visiting family & friends. I'll arrive the 10th but have to leave on the 22nd, so the long drive down to Sonoita, back to PHX and leaving for home the day after is just too much in so little time. But thanks. I'm up for any of the other trails closer to the PHX area though.

Commonly referred to as the "Mexican Border Trail" It starts/ ends just south of Sierra Vista, runs through part of Coranado Forest, by Montezuma's Pass. It stops in Lochiel, which is an old customs house township. There are a few mines in the area. Then it ends/begins just outside Nogales.

after reading up a bit on it. should take 5 hours or so of drive time, though there are several scenic and historic picture opportunities. The road for the most part is graded dirt. It's pretty much a 1 (out of 5 or 10) in difficutly. There is a turnoff for another trail, Harshaw, about 1/2 way through the trail. It heads north to the town of Harshaw and comes out near Patagoinia. This trail, if you want to call it that, is almost suitable for a passanger car.

The whole thing is supposed to be easy, though buddy says some washboard areas, but is very scenic. He said he did it a few weeks back on the motobike. I guess there is several turn offs after the Pass to head down to the actual border road. That should be very easy road as all the construction for the "wall".

I was thinking of starting on the Hwy 92 side, (maybe breakfast at BBC) and ending on Hwy 82. I think it'd make it easier for everybody to get back north afterward and would allow an earlier departure time since I wouldn't have to drive 2 hrs to Nogales first.

hope you can make it Roland.

All, I dont mean to "take over" AJs trail run suggestions. I realize that many people are further north and dont want to drive. I only threw out this suggestion as AJ and I were the only ones showing a major intrest in making a run. Due to evening obligations the night of the 21st I couldnt make a run much out of the area. If everybody else in Phoenix/ Tucson area wants to make the run up that way, my feelings will not be hurt. I know 2mopar would love to see our state's great trails again. Just take charge and post the meet time/ location/ etc. for everybody.

If nothing else is worked out, i'll make up the trip ticket saturday for the Border run area. "+1" says I have to have my details worked out by monday so she can make plans for 21st night.

later,mike

ps can anybody break a $20. Ones preffered.....

Mike... that's the exact trail I was thinking about, Massey #S12... the Mexican Boarder Road. it maybe easy, but it looks interesting and very scenic. I've been wanting to do that for a long time.

I say go with it. No one has shown any real interest or second the vote on any of the other trails listed above. If you would, go ahead post up another thread for this so we can make plans.

The BBC sounds good to me. We'll be there! I'm looking for a place in Sierra Vista to spend Friday night as soon as I post this.

Oh, and has +1 said any more about your "two" friends on the 21st??? :P

AJ

AJ, unfortunatley no answer to the "friends" part, though i guess no goods could be constrewed as good news. lol.

I am sure you saw where the trail head is. I dont know if your up for another Calumut House stay, but that might be easier as you'll already be in Bisbee.

I'll give it a night to see if anybody else anwers up. Roland looks like a possible.

Trailman, you out there? This is right in your back yard. :)

We'll be staying at the best Western Friday night... it's only 30 minutes from Bisbee.

Roland... I think Signcutter21 will be posting up a new thread for this trip and he'll be more than happy to pencil you in. Are you by yourself?

I've already made a reservation at the BW. I don't follow you. What is it you want me to do... reserve you a room? Let me know.

Yeah, these layoffs are getting bad. Beth's already been told her last day at DHL is Mar 13th. Good luck, we've got our fingers crossed for you AND everyone else.

AJ

Yeah, the Best Western at 3460 E. Fry Blvd in Sierra Vista. Phone # is (520) 458-8500. Dinner sounds good, BUT Beth said no pole dancing this time!!!

You have my cell # right?

Count me in for the "Mexican Border Trail". This will be my first attempt at joining the group for an organized run. I don't think I can pass it up, being that it's so close to home. Plus I just ordered my Crager soft 8's, and now I'll be able to show them off to people that actually like KJ's.

trailman... great!!! I put you on the list. Signcutter21 will post up the meeting time in Bisbee at the Bisbee Breakfast Club. Will you be by yourself?

Oh, and be prepared, Beth and I are thinking about retiring to Sierra Vista in the next couple of years, we have a few questions about the area.

I've been in correspondence with Signcutter21 through PM's. I've got a buddy that always goes with me on the trails, and I've already talked him into it.(not hard) Sierra Vista seems like nice place to retire IMO. Ask away with any questions you have, and I'll be happy to tell you what I know.
