So, I'm staying optimistic that I will be out wheeling as much as I can this season, but it doesn't look like that will be happening. The wife and I are trying to pay off the smaller of our debts before her contract as a elementary school librarian runs out. The hope/dream was to pay off all this crap and have enough time to lift the KJ and shove some tires under it before she goes on EI. Also I personally wanted to get the jeep built before the local Jamboree start of June, and even more importantly before the run of Old Renfrew Road that got me stuck twice last year, and left me with a nice bit of body damage. It looks like I will be lucky to even be lifted before end of July for my trip across Newfoundland. Now, its not all negative reasons that I have to delay the build, I mean, I am feeding a second hobbie, I will be putting a kayak rack on the KJ and be renting a second one for the weekends and such, so that the wife and I can go out and explore the lakes of NS and maybe even NFLD. This of course is gonna be a fun expense, but still, a delay on other things, Jeep things. This is more a rant than anything else so, feel free to ignore it, but yah, Ive wanted a lifted liberty ever since I drove my liberty off the lot, its so close I can taste it, yet so far away, I question if it will ever happen. If not in the summer then another long delay, cause we will be saving hard for a house, and likely buying a second ride for the wife.

im sure it will all work out in the end! thats kind of how i am with my ARB bumper, i want it SO bad, so close to being able to afford it when my taxes come, but i have a couple other things that are more important, like 2 smaller bills that id like to pay off. so i just have to be patient! then theres of course the rock rails, winch, Al's arms etc, it never ends!

i also have a RC car hobby, and theres a few new models that came out and i would love to get them, but other things are more important, no matter how bad my "wants" are, "needs" are more important ;)

Just wheel what you got man. Enjoy it. It may not be ideal but there are always ways to make your rig more capable little by little so don't feel down about it, just get out and use it.

I'm going to NF for sure, but don't know about getting out wheeling. I will be there likely the beginning of July, but only for a few days, 5 tops. I'll be getting in and driving from Port aux Basques to Burgeo then across to St Johns, than double timing back to get the ferry to North Sydney. Its been a while since I've been on the Rock so I will be spending as much time with family as possible. I tell yah what, I'll make sure to meet yah off the highway for coffee :) I'm thinking of fitting a extra day or 2 in, doing a night of camping, and getting some kayaking in, if I do that, maybe I will make time for some wheeling, but no promises :)

As I stand right now, I can't even wheel what I got, not outside a parking lot anyways :) My summer tires are pretty much bald, even worse than when I was out last year. I dont even hvae front hooks on right now, but that should be fixed in exactly 2 weeks :) Patients, isn't my strong point, its probably my biggest flaw  What pisses me off the most, and my problem last year, was I want a lift, but lets say I put the lift off a bit, well I need new tires, and I mean NEED. So if I put the lift on hold, get me some 235/70/16, or even maybe 245/70/16, and wheel that, its all great, till I get my lift. Then I look foolish with tiny tires. Then I have to try to sell the ones I bought for a fraction of the cost, and spend money on tires again! It makes so much more sence to lift then get tires but I don't think it will work that way. :S

Its not even the fact I will look a bit goofy, small tires and a lift do make you look bigger, even though bigger tires make you bigger lol. Its the fact that I would be buying 2 sets of tires in a year, all for the same thing...

hmm, chances of selling the good lightly used tires to a friend in the area?

i know around here it's pretty easy to sell lightly used tires but it would atleast cut your loss some maybe?

i understand your frustration completley, i like to see all the usable tread go away before i go spending monies on new grippy doughnuts

It would be possible to sell a set of stockers, lots of kjs arround here that dont see dirt. I would need to find a cheap tire, so a mud tire, or something like that is out of the question, but there are plenty of cheap options, and if I keep the stock size I only need 4 then, not 5. I can even hide that fact with a cheap tire cover :)

The kicker to my story is I went home and cracked out the game of life with the wife, she kicked my booty, I was broke all the way through! That game is to realistic lol

Well there's more to the game of life than a fat wallet. Like common sense. And common sense would tell me, if my tires were a safety issue, they would be a priority.

I realize the economy is tough for most people these days but you Jeep guys don't know what expensive mods are unless you own a boat. There's a saying that holds true regarding boats; The two best days of boat ownership are the day you buy the boat, and the day you sell the boat. And as a large boat owner myself, I can relate to being short on play cash.

My dad always had a way of making life painfully clear with his blunt little sayings.

Quote:
Want in one hand and poop in the other and see what one fills up first.

Quote:
Dream about the things you want in life, look in wallet and then adjust accordingly.

There is no reason you have to have the most expensive of everything in life. For everything out there you can find a cheaper alternative and still enjoy all the fun without braking the bank or putting off important stuff. It was a hard lession to learn but i think i finaly have it down.

Of course the wealthy will always look down at you and point out how you should have bought "insert money pit here" but they didn't look in your wallet did they?

Talking to the wife last night, and we half way agreed that if the lift has to wait, we can do a few little things through the summer. I'm deffinitly in need of new tires, and a roof rack / kayak rack will be needed before the waters get warm, but I'm thinking if I don't lift it this season, I will get some hella 500s, oh, and I have a line on a CB, so that would be fun. As far as tires I'm waiting for a official quote but I found out that the Mud-Terrain KM2 is available in the stock 235/70/16 size, and I'm pretty sure, I can get 4 of those installed for under $1k. I will still be stock height, but a great tire will go a long way, and some common sense of course :) Things are a lot better looking than last night, and I have you guys to thank. You helped me realize that I'm not the only one going through this stuff, and that eventually, I will get the built Jeep of my dreams, and hey, it will be all the better then than now :)

My dad's always said
"A boat is a hole in the water you throw money into"

What I think though:

Depending on which lift you're going with, Obi, I'd just go to a 225/75-16 MT. That will help with your current wheeling.

If you're just doing OME coils and Ranchos, you do not need to add anything, and it will not look goofy with the small tires. If anything, the small tires will just make your lift look bigger;)

Yah but bigger tires will make me bigger... but there is alwayse room for that in the future I suppose. I'm really thinking of some 235/70/16 mud terrain km2's, I would only need 4 then anyways. Would that look really silly when I get my franky?

Obihann, I think the mod virus got you, relax and scout for special offers.

It took me over a year to puzzle the parts for my lift together, looking for the cheapest way possible.

Check E-bay, check the for sale section on here.

Those BFG's sure are nice but a $1000

Can't you fit some Coopers or something? Put whatever you save into a roofrack?

And yes, 235/70/16 looks kinda silly:

But do you expect to have a frankenlift before those M/T's wear out?

That's a grand Candian. Though I think those 265/70 will look tiny under a franky... I'd keep an eye on Craigslist and the local papers/4x4 forums for a 31" tire.

This thread seems to have turned into group therapy for Obi .. Hehe
Got to have your priorities.. For example I just bought myself a $1000 laptop... That would of been good to go towards my lift, but without my notebook I wouldnt be able to chat with yee crazy B@stard$ about my renny.
Obi NS should have a classified site. I check nl classifieds.com all the time. You see some sick tires on there for sale. Cheap and perfect for offroading.

A 31" tire wont fit under a stock liberty, and the problem I'm running into is I need tires before my lift. Anyways, thanks to my folks, and my dads military discount, I think we have a solution. The lift is back on the back burner, I want the franky, but its not happening in the spring. I am getting this spring a new set of BFG Mud Terrain KM2s in 235/70/16. The total cost is $915. Basically my parents are helping me out with a loan :) This means I will run this summer I will have all the basiscs for a good wheeling season, mud tires, a cb radio, front and rear tow hooks! I will likelly be doing some little upgrades here and there, I think I mentioned I want to do a 9005 conversion on my fogs, and use ssu bulbs like my headlights. I will also be getting a pair of hella 500s again, but listen to me, here I go again planning stuff that I dont even have yet... Anyways, things are balanced out!
