WOW! it should matter if you have locker or not, ask how much for a re-gear only then see what they say and the say oh ya and I also have lockers that need to be installed at the same time.

OK have all items, I am going to pay around $1200 for the install, the place I am taking is charging $85 an hour for 14 hours labor.
Hopefully is will go in Thurs and be done on Friday I just have to find rides for the days with out my KJ.

Do I need a friction modifier if I am using Detriot Lockers?

friction modifier is only for an LSD with the clutch pads like the factory trac-lok. A Detroit locker or DTT does not need them since they use gears. Gears require gear oil of course.

sweet! Im hoping to get mine in real soon. I use Royal Purple Synthetics with my DTT and DL but Eaton says NOT to use synthetic just the regular conventional gear oil and that's what I will use when I first get the gears in because you have to change the gear oil after 500 miles.

sure, my regular gear guy said $640 and another good shop quoted me $500 but I know a guy and he is actually going to do it for me for $200 which is why they are going in so soon. but when I talked to KJ Willy he was getting quotes in the $1,000's!!

Wow, that seems pretty high. I just had my Rock-Trac TC installed for under $600, and when I told them I'd probably be back to get gears done, they said the gears would be an easier job than the TC. So I'm guessing some thing in the $400-500 range for front and rear.

This guy is REALLY good, though. He can probably do in 4 hours what a flunkie could do in 12.

Just remember that regearing the front diff in the KJ requires the front diff removal which greatly adds to the cost of install. It's like 5-6 hours alone by the book labor to R&I the front diff in a KJ.

I'm being told 5-6 hours for the rear with locker and 6-7 for the front with locker at $85 an hour, I was going to drop mine off tomorrow but I don't trust leaving the jeep in Va Beach for a week while I am out to sea, so I will check out a couple more shops and get the install done the begininng of March.

Do those timeframes sound right?

ya they dont sound real far off, when my guy did the front DTT for it it took about 6 hours and the rear took about 4 he had some troubles with the rear but nothing bad, just took a little longer than it normally does

Ok so i have been wanting to upgrade the KJ for a while now, 4.10 gears and a rear locker. Here is a parts list i have come up with so far. . .

D30A 4.10 Gears - http://trailquest.com/axles/KJ_Model30.shtml $255
Chrysler 8.25 4.10 Gears - http://nationaldrivetrain.com/shopsi...ysler_825.html $170
Aussie Rear Locker - http://aussielocker.com/item.php/TM7...0/310061/.html $300
Grand total $725.00

Anyone use any of these companies? Any issues with that set up? My KJ is an 04 i know that some parts seals ect. . will have to be replaced when i do the gear swap do i really need a complete rebuild kit? or just an overhaul kit?

Yes those are all good companies, I have bought several things from the first two and a couple members have bought the Aussie locker. You need to also add $122 for the front rebuild kit and another $90 for the rear rebuild kit, you can buy the front rebuild from Trail Quest and National Drivetrain has the rear overhaul kit.
