Which Jeep?

Im looking at buying a second Jeep, but I dont know which one to get so I need some help deciding. They are both the same asking price but I will obviously try to talk them down on the price.

I like the Comanche's size and the way it looks and that its low miles but it only seats 2 comfortably and its the small 4 cylinder, which Ive been told kind of sucks and then its part unibody part frame.
I like that the Wagoneer seats more, and has a frame, I dont care that much for the V8 Id prefer a 6 cylinder.

1st- 1986 Comanche with 161,721 miles, command track 4 wheel drive, 2.5 liter 4 cyl., automatic transmission, factory air, and heavy duty receiver hitch. The transfer case is broken. The drive shafts and cross member are out of the truck now. The engine turns over slowly but won't start (been sitting all winter).

2nd-1980 Jeep Wagoneer dana 44 front and rear good title transfer case trans, bad motor locked up 360, auto trans

Comanche. Full size rigs are cool, but a Comanche is already a truck which kind of sounds like what you want. I'd get the Manche and put the newest XJ body styling available on it too. You could always look for a J10.

I vote comanche, look at the orange one in the XJ MJ section, it totally inspired me to buy one one day soon. and a 4.0 I6 is a great motor, and a simple swap into a MJ because most came factory (although a CRD like sir sam would be cool) also being that many MJ parts are compatable with an XJ, the parts are cheaper and more options.

simple?? Ive been told its a lot of work for an '86 bc everything needs to be swapped, including all the wire harness and the front radiator supports (to fit the 4.0 radiator, the hood needs to be swapped for the later models with the corner latches, which means everything surrounding the new latches will need to be changed). A complete donor vehicle is highly recommended.

but it would probably be worth it bc the I6 is a killer engine but the MJ doesnt seat as many as the FSJ.

I just dont know lol I really like the look of the FSJ chopped like that but you dont see very many MJs built up and wheeled, man I hate making decisions like this. :roll:

where is the orange MJ??

cheaper to do the FSJ for sure in the long run, Comanche maybe cooler but basically a 2 passenger small truck with not a lot of room, all depends on what you want.

If you were looking for a second toy to use on the street then get the Comanche , but from looking at it theres going to be a ton of work, some differences in springs etc make them kind of harder to lift than a cherokee, lots of stuff switches over though like interior, engine transfer case etc.

The old FSJ if everything else is good, throw in an engine and wheel from day one while upgrading springs, suspension, cutting off body parts etc. If I was your age I would do this one if for nothing else the cool factor of taking 3 or 4 friends, with the top pretty much gone and having fun. Plus its worth more at the scrap yard when you are done with it!

depends on how much money , time, and work you want to put into one now or later

that's why I like the FSJ, it'll seat more than 2 people and it'll be topless.

Money for it will be very limited until I finish school then it'll increase a lot, I have plenty of time to work on one and I like to wrench so I have no problem working on it now or later. I'm planning on building it up slowly into a rock crawler that I can take out on some hard trails and not have to worry about breaking parts.

Actually the front's steering and suspension is exactly the same, the leafs in the rear are the only differance suspension wise, but if you do a spring over lift, it gains you something like 5" in the rear, and its basically free., but yes most everything else swaps over. at least in my area cherokees are everywhere, people run the pants off those things so junkyard parts are everywhere for cheap.

ok I found another FSJ that I am going to try to go look at tomorrow on my home home for the weekend. The asking price is a little more than the other one but this one runs good and he said it only has 188,000 miles on it.

1987 Wagoneer, V8,runs and drives, motor is strong, it needs front brakes before it can be driven, tranny shifts good,clean title.

That 87 Waggy looks good (in the pic) for it's age.

They ride nice, and will go almost anywhere, and are tough old suckers.

ok well I should be picking up a 1987 Jeep Comanche next Monday for $400, it runs, drives, has a clear title, 4.0L, 5 speed manual trans, short bed, 4x4. and it comes with a halfway stripped down 1990 MJ with a blown 2.5L, 4 speed.

Ill try to post some pics when I get it.
