I-Pass

I just finally got around to ordering an I-Pass today, and after I placed the order I realized the KJ is on the list of vehicles that "may" need the license plate transponder.

Who has a regular I-Pass, did you mount in the alternate position they mention (center of vehicle, 1" up from dash), or did you mount it up top? How's it working - any problems with it not being read by the tolls? Or should I just wait until I get the darn thing & trade it in at an oasis for the license plate transponder?

up top..had it on 2 of my cars works fine...make sure arrows point up

Have had the ipass for several years - keep it in the center console until I need it, then rest it on the dash when going thru tolls... never had any issues with the device being 'read' and wasn't even aware I might need a plate transponder

Mine is mounted behind the rear view mirror. It works great there.

I wouldn't worry about if it is in an ideal position or not. Since the ipass is registered to your vehicle by plate, make, model, and color, should it not register and a picture is taken, the information is cross referenced in the database and the toll is charged to the account. Thus no ticket is issued.

Hear, hear.... Both the vans are registered to one I-Pass, thus I forget to move it sometimes, yet run the toll roads like I have it. I-Pass always shows the tolls being taken as per normal, no problems.

I need to get one of those for when I get there in may, those tolls are a pain in the *#*HEEHAWWW*#&#

where's the best place to get them? I know my gf got hers through some special deal like 2 years ago or something and when the tolls went up they allowed her to stay at the lower charges

well 355 around D Grove is exactly where i'm headed so I'll just get one when I get there I'll just bring 2 rolls of quarters for the drive up, if I still have left over quarters I'll wash my Jeep when I get there!

I've only spent like 6-7 months total up there over the past few years among like 20 some flights back and forth. Yay for gps, i'm gonna be totally disoriented until I get within 60 miles of Woodridge

I dunno, I think I'll order it. I'm not good at waiting.

If I wait i might get forced into buying Two :lol:

Without iPass, tolls are double. If the toll is .40 cents, you pay .80 and so forth. Of course be prepared to wait in long lines too.

already knew the tolls were double, cant tell you how many times we were scroungin for change because she didnt have her mom's ipass in her car

that deduction i was talking about, when the ipass first came out I want to say it was cheeper than 40 cents on the ipass i could have misunderstood, in anycase they've managed to still have it at that lower price from one of the intraductory offers that ipass was having, or maybe the tolls went up and ipass let them stay at the lower price

I'm not used to tolls, we don't have them in NC, but we have 4 seasons too and don't have to rebuild our highways every year, instead, we take 30 years to finish a highway to begin with hahaha

and of course, by the time it's done they have to start over at the beginning, our roads here are pretty frigging sweet, but we rarely ever see ice. I'd say the worst road we have that's highly used is I77 and part of whatever that runs through Winston-Salem. Other than those two, theyre all smooth blacktop or long pour concrete. Whichever the 2nd highway that is that goes out towards shaumberg from around woodridge makes my gf's car ride like a gocart at the cart track, frontbackfrontbackfrontbackfrontback :shock:

That must have been I-355 to I-290, and well over two years ago last tinme you were on it. To the best of my knowledge, that tollway / expressway is in excellent condition since being redone a year or two ago.

If you're coming here in April / May, something tells me you just might end up crying like a little girl once you discover what a serious beating the secondary roads took over this past winter. :shock:

Our winter was brutal. Which btw, if the state and county gov't's have the money, construction season around here to repair the highways will be intense, to say the least.

I can only imagine what this last winter did to the roads. I mean, when I was there in December/Jan there were already chunks of pavement comming up, and it only got worse after that. Ice is the devil!

NC could learn a thing or two here and there about ice from you guys. I sat on a bench and watched dot vacume up sand after they sanded before our last snow / ice storm.

We just don't have the salt or the trucks to do much of anything, thus why if it snows 4-6 inches half the schools and businesses don't open

I have my IPass up by the rear view as well and have had no problem.
BTW the road you are talking about is concrete. The saw cuts are what makes your GF's car rock like that. They saw cut to quickly and the edges cured fast than the concrete on top to cure faster than the concrete below and it cured up slightly. 88 is the same way west of Lombard. My wife hates going to my parents house in Iowa just because of this road. She visibly bounces in the passenger seat on that stretch.
