Check your local laws, might be illegal if you have any type of emission testing or inspections.

I was going to swap in the 2.8 CRD but quickly passed due to the 2.8 not being a reliable engine, instead a 4.7 V-8 will be the next major mod.

It would almost be cheaper to buy a CRD KJ than to swap one. I have seen them sell for under $9,000

Mines almost paid off. I really don't want any more payments.

Are you wanting to do the work yourself?

wouldn't a pre-emissions era diesel swap bypass the emissions rule?

for instance, when i crammed a 302 into a ford ranger it didnt require anything but a safety inspection because the 302 was old enough to not require the sniffer (back when NC was actually doing sniffers)

i understand that he's talkin about the CRD specifically

well i guess it would hamper some of the effort if he's got an A/T as well with the whole LE or FE on the tranny

Isn't Taxachusetts about to levy a huge new tax on diesel?

Ok lets say you can buy a CRD for $10,000(which is very feasible).

I don't know what year your KJ is, how many miles, equipment, etc, but I am going to guess that your blue book value is $4000, and further I am going to assume that you could sell it for exactly 4k.

Now lets say you do manage to find a parts vehicle, a complete donor, with everything you need, a realistic number for that is $4000.

So your going to spend $4000 CASH out of your pocket. I guess you don't want payments and you already have $4000 cash to get started on this swap.

So lets say you sell your Jeep for $4000, and buy a CRD for $10,000. That means you are left making payments on a $6000 used vehicle.

But, since you had $4000 cash to buy a wrecked CRD for parts we will apply that to your purchase price. Which means you are making payments on a $2000 used vehicle.

So look at it this way, you can spend $4000 cash, plus the time and headache to swap the engine in. And end up with a vehicle that has about $8000 of your "investment" into it.

Or you can go out today and and make payments on a $2000 vehicle.

Now I am guessing your not sitting on $4000 cash, otherwise you would have already paid off your vehicle, and this would be moot.
