yes VERY similar to the first pic of the chipped tooth you posted. They do ship they extremely bad IMO I bought the rear 4.10 from Motive and they came in a hug box and the ring and pinion were sandwiched in between two BIG pieces of foam, probably enough so you could run over the box with the KJ and the gears would still be in perfect order, while the D30a gears look like they were just thrown into a box and shipped.

Just got done looking at mine and my has some similar chips out of the gear, like JSC I don't think mine is going to be an issue.

I have the crush spacer.

Let us know what they say

Mine looks fairly good............no chips, although I expected better quality and much better packaging.

Replacement on the way. I was told the crush spacer is suppose to be in with the ring and pinion so we will see what comes in the shiipment.

BTW, anybody got a link or exploded diagram of the D30a with part numbers? I would really like to see where and how all these parts go. Not doing the work myself, just want to understand how it all fits together.

Got an e-mail, I'll send you the KJ bible....at least as it pertains to KJs from 2006, but it would probably work for any year perhaps for most parts.

look what I have started. Trailquest is going to hate me now! Not their problem really, they are getting direct shipped so they have no QC option.

I know its not their fault, because when I first ordered it they said that they dont stock them. But you would think Dana/ Spicer would ship it better than how they did, I mean really??

Did they cover the shipping back to them?

WOW, not very impressed at all with what I got. Looks like the gears I got were actually used considering there is oil on them and the teeth have so many chips on or around them. The box looks like crap too and was opened already when I received it. Took pictures of everything before I actually got into it so it is all documented. $400 bux for something "new", not very happy.

got my replacements yesterday. gears look better but packaging was the same :( No will call tag from UPS so I need to see about that. Now that you mention it and I can compare, the first set definitely looks used as well. the end of the pinion where the numbers are etched is all worn. The replacements look a lot better. Starting to think 4.10's might not be worth the headache and cost if this is the best things get.

One more question to anybody listening. Is the crush sleeve in the bag with the ring and pinion? no real part number on the bag, but that is what I am being told is the crush sleeve.

Fouros: I drilled down abit further on your link for this one. http://www.justdifferentials.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=22_35_116_508&products_id=2921

I would have to agree with you there, I am starting to think about just returning the darn things and use that money towards my other Jeep.

I think they were set-up already to help in the break-in period, mine are the same way it looks like they were probably tested at the factory and were matched together.

Well let me show you what I got...

The box was already opened before I even pulled it out of the larger box all of the pieces were in....
Image

The inside of the box looked like this...
Image

The first nicks and scratches found...(Should see the nick right in the center of the picture)
Image

Yikes, look at that smashed edge to that tooth (aka that silver mark should not be there at all)
Image

Well at least all the re-build stuff came in alright, none of those boxes were crushed or damaged...

that is just ridiculous! I called TrailQuest today and am I hopefully getting mine refunded, but I told her how they are shipping them since TrailQuest does not actually stock them and she was very surprised and she said she would talk to them about it Monday.
