Ok I'm going to stop jacking 17" threads and submit my own!

Heres the facts:

02 Liberty Sport 2WD
05 Lmitied 17" wheels
Spidertrax 1.25 wheel spacers
Rusty's front springs
Rancho front shocks
front 2-ring clevis
Daystar rear spacers
Skyjacker rear shocks

Currently has 245/65/17 BFG Rugged trails

Looking for something beefier and a little more capable, but without sacrificing much road manners. No MT's, nothing more aggressive than a BFG AT.

In order to preserve the jeeps on road performance and MPG I don't want to go too big, I've heard 32"+ is a no-go for this.

I'm thinking a 255/70 General Grabber AT2. 255/70 would be 31.1" total diameter if I'm right. The 255 instead of 245 for a little more footprint, and I think 245/75 would be too much. Also these tires are white lettered in 245 but blackwall in 255, which I'd prefer.

I am welcome to all suggestions, let me know soon. I plan to buy within days. Looking CHEAP. very cheap. =)

Also, nothing load range E, this sadly disqualifies re-treads, even though only an aggressive one is available.

Your asking for a tire that does not exist. You will lose mpg's with a 31" tire,no way around that, the wider you go the more you lose also since friction comes into play(wider=more friction=less mpg's).BFG's are $$$$,anything similar will not be much cheaper.Your most likely going to be stuck with a load range "E" or go with a street tread tire that is "P" rated.

32" is when everyone here says to re-gear due to loss of power/efficiency that I've seen so far, thats why I'm asking about 31.1" dia tires. The 245/65's I have are ~29.6" dia if I remember right, so its ~.5" difference total. If what I know about tire sizing is correct, a 255/70 will have a very similar contact patch to a 245/65 it will just be taller - a 245/70 having a smaller patch than either. I will put it through a tire calculator soon to confirm though!

Also, I said I was looking for a tread no more aggressive than a BFG AT. I do not want them, or anything "meaner" purely due to street ability. Just looking for something that is intended more for road use but an AT none the less. Something like the Yokohama, Firestone even. The Destination AT's are 716 installed right now for 4 (25% off) and that discount would count for a 5th if I wanted it, too. Might go that route. Still have to check on the Grabber AT2. Its much cheaper but also its much cheaper... you know.

Just really want to see if anyone has used a 255/70/17 at all, no records on the site at all! I may go with 245/70 if I can't figure it out, I know thats safe but it seems like a waste seeing as how I could have ran that WITHOUT the lift. =D

It's done - I went with 245/70/17 Firestone destination AT. Total was about $680 out the door with warranty and lifetime rotate/balance. I could have gone bigger, but even these scrub pretty bad on the pinch weld and in the front with my setup. I've hammered one side out but ran out of daylight. Pics soon.

I think you'll like the Destination AT. I had a set in 245/65R17 on the '05 17X7.5 rim before the lift. They're really good tires for the money.

You're going to have to do some trimming or molding up front in addition to the flattening the pinch welds with those SpiderTrax.
