Hi! I have a 2007 Sport Liberty with the stndard audio system. I'd like a Satellite radio installed, but am a little confused at this point. First, I went to Best Buy this afternoon to ask some very specific questions to the installer person about routing the antenna, drilling, gaps, water leaks, etc. He seemed quite condescending and irritated with my questions.

So, I need some advice - I'd like satellite radio with the minimum of tearing the vehicle apart. Sirius Stargate? I noticed on the Jeep website there is a Mopar radio, quite expensive, which seems to be a separate tuner, and antenna which plug into the existing system.

Need some comments. I used to be able to install car stereos but that was on a 1978 Chevy Blazer and a 1983 K-10 pickup. I don't look forward to tackling a brand new 2007 vehicle.

Is Circuit City any better than Best Buy in offerings and installation? Thanks for the comments.

Of the two choices, I'd go to BB because CC just fired 3500 people.
I put the sirius antenna (magnetic) on my roof close to the passenger door. I removed the trim and gaskets and routed the wire down the A pillar and into the interior. I have an older unit with an external tuner which I mounted behind the glove box.
I bought a Peripheral (name of the manufacturer) PXDX which plugs into the CD changer port behind the stock radio. This allows me to plug the audio directly into the deck without a nasty FM Modulator. When I want to listen to the SAT Radio, I just hit the CD button and viola! The PXDX is $70 - $80.
I did not drill anything.
Some people mount the antenna by the 3rd brake light and rout it through the boot.

Well, i work at CC as a car audio installer, yea yea 3500 people, i get it.

Sirius installation in the Liberty can't be as easy or as hard as you want it to be. One nice thing about Jeeps is how easily they come apart.

Antenna installation in the liberty works great out the 3rd break light, extremly easy to get the wiring too and dont really have to worry about breaking any seals. I wouldn't worry too much about it though, i've put sirius antenna's in everything from an 86 Buick to an 07 BMW, the wires so little it doesnt do too much.

Mounting options all depend on what unit you go with and how much money you wanna shell out to have it done. There is a custom bracket available for the KJ that makes the install look very nice with the unit mounted right next to the radio.

Power options the unit can go to the cigarette lighter plug or can be hardwired with a simple adapter or a confident install that can wire it right to the power plug that comes with the unit.

As for Fm Modulators and all that, as of right now you NEED to go some kind of wired route, weather it be through the CD changer port (if applicable) or through the antenna plug.

I've got a Kenwood reciever for my Sirius.


I didn't like that the plug and plays were soo big so this worked for me. It's hardwired in and has better reception that the pnp's also.

It looks different now with an Alpine head unit and the wire tucked into the dash. Between that and the way the Alpine works with my I-pod, life is good. My antenna is up by the 3rd break light. I like that it's a magnet, it was easy to move for better reception after I got the roof rack put on.

03 Freedom with some neat stuff done to it that I learned about here.

Bought the factory sirius radio and installed per instructions. Was intimidated at first, but it was really pretty easy. Hardest part was drilling by the 3rd brake light at the rear, be steady. Other than that the sirius tuner bolts right in at the rear of the vehicle, and then the wire travels through all factory chases to the front. It would be what I could call plug and play. Only took about an hour to an hour and a half. Love the seamless factory look and operation.

I bought the Starmate 3 kit. I put the antenna right above the drivers seat on the roof and ran the wiring sandwiched between the door. The wiring is exposed when you open the door, but VERY sturdy little wire. I used the plastic braket and installed the receiver on my heatvent. I tucked all the wiring into the little cracks and creveses of the dash (Gotta love american vehicles).

I plan on glueing the receiver to the dash like the pic of the kenwood receiver in this thread. Im just waiting for my JVC 7 Inch DVD deck. I may move the antenna to the back, but right now I have good reception.

The FM modulator sux.

just run the wires behind the cd player, and along the rubber mouldings at the top of the door. as for the sid # when you hit menu you should see the option. If you plan on upgrading the stk cd player get the sirus ready

Can you still use the regular CD player with the PXDX hooked up? I thought about getting the Sirius FMDA25 inline antenna adapter, though I'm not sure if the audio quality would be as good. It's only $20 and not much wiring to do.

I scored a slightly used PXDX with correct harness for $17 on ebay last night

I have an XM XpressR Radio that I move between vehicles as required. I'm still trying to find a spot to mount it on the dash. XM and Sirus are pretty much the same company, same channels.

I replaced my stock AM/FM CD player with a Kenwood deck because of all the features & the remote control. It has an AUX in jack in the front where I plug my XM Radio into, real simple. My Kenwood deck also has a USB port which is great. You can get a lot of MP3's on a thumb drive and it doesn't skip like a CD player does.

My particular Kenwood deck is Bluetooth and XM radio "ready" which simply means I need to buy an accessory to get those features. If you want a neat & tidy setup you could buy a deck like mine that is Sirus sattelite radio "ready" and buy the Sirus sattelite mini radio. Both should be availaible where you buy the deck. Then all you need to worry about is where to efficiently run the sattelite antenna wire. I have mine on the front of my roof but will have to look at that nice idea of running it through the third brakelight.

The only problem I have with my sattelite radio is the reception sometimes fades when I'm in a valley/ravine that doesn't have a clear view of the southern sky. Other than that, the choice of stations is great, something like 135 channels.

Oh yeah, I fogot to mention that if you plan to install a non-Mopar radio in your Libby you'll need to buy an adapter kit for your year & model, about $20. I also bought a wiring adapter which I soldered to the radio and simply plugged into the Jeep's stock wiring harness. The Libby's antenna cable also required an adapter too. If you're not electronically inclined many car audio shops offer installation.
