so was it bad when i took out my passanger CV that that entire shaft came with it  after some hammering and chaining the shaft seperated from the CV and then i just shoved the shaft back in... and it still works with no leaks.. for now...

chris.. no better time for a SFA

we're going for 16/18 inches of lift , cutting out the fenders front and rear, relocating the gas tank, and some other extras to fit 40s under it, Oh and its going to stay the way it is now 2 wheel drive, less weight to drag around.

you know he's a poser now with that new bumper

haha tom you're awesome

do you think we should give him about a 32 inch skinny in the front and a 40ish in the rear and tub it?

maybe give him a few rat fink decals

might have to cut him a sunroof so he can see the stoplights

cdiekhans, same thing happened to mine about 20K ago. The snap rings broke which let the stub shaft move, which wore the splines off of it... about 900 bucks later it was all done. I ended up having to go to the dealer because i couldn't get the stupid CV off of the shaft..

I have my old one if that would be any help at all to give you an idea on replacement or what your working with

Chris, I pulled that seal and bearing to replace last year. A $5 Harbor freight 3-jaw gear puller did the trick with a little modification.

Also, i thought that shaft comes out with the CV. If that's the case, the inner shaft should be yanked out with relative ease if you can grip it.

PS I priced one at $50 bucks from a local junk yard.

Thanks Everybody! I was able to find a new front diff for really cheap with only 32,000 miles on it.... :D

I was not able to see if it had the axle shaft in it though so I may need a new one of those anyway....

Troy... Is that axle shaft still available!?

Thanks again for all the help and ideas!

The junkyard should have the axles too, just have to pay extra to get them. The housing is generally sold with just the carrier.
I got my last housing with axles for $346.00 including tax. I now have a spare set of axles for back up.

That is my jeep on the left...

After the front drive shaft was removed today....
More bad news....

Drive shaft is a little bad....

( post pics in a lil bit)

and the only reason i'm laughing is because I'm going to have an entire new front end..... But the jeep has been paid off for a year so it's like a few more jeep payments.... But I should be all good for a long while after everything is replaced....

I'm getting all new hardware ( nuts&bolts for the front end) and will have new cv's, lower ball joints, hoses, newer front diff, lower suspension fork, lower control arms..... etc... I know i'm forgetting some stuff but you get the idea..

So does anyone have a front drive shaft or lower control arms laying around?
