Rain Sensing Wipers

Anyone have any problems with the rain sensing wipers? I have the setting set to on, yet the past few times it has rained they have not kicked in. I think that they did once. I have only had the liberty for about 2 weeks so I'm not sure if I need to adjust a setting other than "on".

I would say test it with a garden hose..
I have not set my on yet. So this is the best advise I have...

I think the sensor might be at the top where the rearview mirrow is.

What is the point to those things? Really I want to know,to lazy to flip a switch that is 1" away from your right hand?

Actually its not about being lazy... I see it as a safety measure:
I was driving on rain with my auto wipers enabled then this big rig passes me and splashes all of my windshield:
The auto wipers IMMEDIATELY switched to the fastest setting then came back to normal......

Anyhow its a nice feature =)

Not to mention that most VOLVOS, BMWs and european cars have that sensor....
The liberty has it maybe because it was some of the heritage Daimler left to chrysler?
Just take a look at the challengers, journeys or most chryslers key: It screams Mercedes all over!

Not to purposely thread-jack, but anyone know a way to make the rear wiper just stay on, when you switch it on? (instead of the 5sec delay wipe). I know it'll be an electrical fix, but I would appreciate any thoughts.

You would have to bypass the relay for them. The relay is what sends the signal to them every 5 sec ... Bypass that and it will send a constant signal to them to always be moving.

I dont think they use a relay anymore...
these things are hooked up to the bcm which basically is a computer that tells your car what to do... if the bcm goes south you can forget about wipers, locks, windows... anything electrical....
This happened to us with our 2005 grand caravan..... the bcm just stopped working right in the middle of a road trip. heres a list of the stuff that just stopped working:
gauges (speedo, fuel,temp AND tach)
door locks
windows
wipers
high beams
and left turn signal...
a quick visit to a dealership and 600 bucks later solved the problem

so there it is.... I guess its a no-go here

I agree its not about being lazy but about connivence. It sure is nice to just watch the road and the wipers just work when it rains.

I would be startled if it started wiping immediately if a bird pooped on a sensor or a drop of water hit it.. Is it that sensitive?

I have that feature on my saturn astra. I don't really like it most of the time because i do not find it reliable enough, especially in the winter. I never know what my wipers are going to do. I'd rather have manual settings but my car only has 2 settings - auto and high. Or i can flick the switch for every wipe. ha ha. The only time it is good is when it works - during rain it can automatically adjust the speed.

x2 I had auto wipers on my mazda3. usless in winter and barely work in summer. I like my manual wipers better
