This came in an e-mail from Chrysler:

This message is a follow-up to our March 16 live session with Steven Landry, EVP of North American Sales, Marketing, and Mopar Parts and Service at Chrysler. In that session, 69 percent of those participating agreed that the global alliance with Fiat® is "a good thing." Many of you commented likewise in the Discussion about the subject back in January. We appreciate your feedback.

How Can You Help
We want to dispel some myths that you may have heard about the alliance. We will be sharing with you "talking points" that the Chrysler executives have developed and are using to respond to questions about the potential alliance.

Although not all of these talking points have been publically released, as our trusted partners, we thought you might find them useful.

The alliance would be a fitting technology match:

It would enable us to obtain world-class small engines and powertrains, ultimately facilitating synergies in purchasing, engineering and distribution.
Fiat's product portfolio complements ours, so we gain increased R&D and design capabilities.

I had a little Fiat 124 station wagon in the early 70's and drove the sheet out of it. That would be better than India.

I'm not sayin fiat's not decent stuff, I don't see where it belongs in a medium to heavy duty vehicle like a jeep though

you'd think jeep would have learned that lesson from their issues 30 years ago

Unfortunately, the only people that learned from that lesson were the people that were there at the time and the customers. In the last 30 years, Jeep has changed hands too many times for there to be any corporate memory.

Well, they can do what they want, as long as they keep making Jeeps, as long as parts yards are still open and JCWhitney still carries those Willys tubs I'll be building a MeepMeep in the next few years

Yeah - but they don't use their diesel - they own IVECO - which makes Truck/Bus diesels
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iveco

(FIAT also owns Ferrari and Maserrati - but I woudln't bet on a V12 in the Liberty either)
