I'd bet a diff fluid drain/seal/fill is easier never done hellas though.

Here, tomorrow jump under the jeep, find out where it's leaking. Take pics. Also look around the area to get your thoughts on how things go together/ come apart. Bring both to the table and I'm sure you will be helped. Might even have the right idea on construction. Meet people half way and it goes much smoother.

i've seen it. its on the back side on the bottom. all wet

things wear out, maybe something hit it, who knows but somethings happened so now do not do like you did with the crushed Y pipe and drive it forever, get it repaired however you have to. Is it real bad or can you get by for a while with just checking the fluid level?

Also sit down and REALLY look at what you bring home a week and get a working budget together, you should not have new parts sitting around and then Talk about your Mother helping you pay on things. Not cool

never looked at it, so realistically how hard is a pinion seal on the 30A?

Tools needed? Can a novice handle it?

i think my mom lied to me about the payments and amount left on the car. it only had 11,500 left on it 2 years ago. it doesnt make any sence to have 10k left on it now.

Yep you better keep it since you owe twice as much as it is worth for trade in.

does that make sence? i would have kept it if she told me it ment alot to her because it was my dads. i had now planned on keeping it. if my mom has told me something else because she didnt want me to trade it in, i will go get another jeep. this jeep isnt in my name.

never mind, was going to say something but when i read it, it was fairly rude. just keep it and learn how to fix stuff on it so when you get something else you can do all hte mods on it your self

1. Ask Mom or look at the KJ's papers and find out who has the loan on your KJ
2. Call them and ask what is the balance on the note, what is the interest rate, the monthly payment, the amount of time left on the note and are the payments current. Write all this down. You will then know how much you will be paying for how long and you can plan accordingly.

Unless your KJ is a real wreck, you will be better off keeping it and learning how to work on it yourself. A Jeep is a tough vehicle and will be worth the effort of maintenance. But a KJ is not a simple vehicle and an off road design does have by its nature a lot of stuff to wear out. Expect to pay, but the more you learn to do yourself the less you will pay.

Do not get into the car trade spiral. As others have pointed out, you will lose in this and the dealer will win.
