Well the CRD might have been making the sound all along, but since I changed all the fluids I just started noticing it. I only notice it around 40-50mph and the only thing I can think of it might be that I need heavier weight real end oil. When I changed the rear end fluid I used Mobil 1 75w90, maybe I should try the 75w140 and some different friction modifier?

What else could it be? I dont think its a wheel bearing but I'm not sure anymore. I don't tow a whole lot but maybe the extra heavy oil is what was in it before... any idea? thanks.

You think its from the FRONT diff? I should put it in 4H and see if it changes. Thanks.

Just make sure it's in Full-Time otherwise it might make more noises than whining ;)

Sure it isn't the passenger? hehehe

Ha nice, yeah it was in full time and yeah she was whining a little when I was on and off the accelerator to listing for the noise.. ha. Well I'm still not sure what it is coming from but if its common then I guess I need not worry, anyone else notice a noise like this?

couple places that sort of sound could come from, front / rear diff or transfer case

if it does it sitting still it's typically the belt tensioner if it's sounding like it's got a supercharger, or the power steering if it sounds like it's pissed at you

sounds like it's not those two since you're hearing it at 40ish mph, usually can't hear engine accessories very well at that speed

did you service the Transcase when you did the diffs? just trying to knock out most likley areas, if you changed weights of fluid in the diffs that could be it, i use the 75w140 in the front or it whines, and i use 75w90 purple goodness with an extra shot of modifier in the rear, very little noise at 97k

Hey, I was at Jeep the other day with my buddy and his KJ which is the same as mine 04 Liberty Limited. he had a full service done on it and they told him the front end whine may be the pinion Bearings getting loose.

Mine makes that noise once in a while, I’ve never been able to figure out where it comes from
