I was doing research on this since I too am putting on a Magnaflow system on the Liberty. I got lucky at one of our offroad events(ok I was in my Cherokee) and won it at a raffle and just needed to pay shipping. They need a sound video on it so do one before you change it then after and send it to Magnaflow.

Mine came by Fed Ex Friday so I went to a friends shop and we put it on. We did have to hammer the gas tank skid plate alittle on the side to make sure it won't rub. But very easy to put on. looks good and has a little deeper tone. I was going to change that cat to a free flow like I did on my Cherokee but did not know there was three of them...nevermind... . My friend said it appears to be alot smoother and he liked it. Have fun...

Thanks, I am curious what changes they did with the exhaust between those years.

It depends on the transmission. The 45RFE KJ's had 3 cats and the 42RLE KJ's have only 2 and both set-ups are different hence the need for 2 different part#'s.If you have the 45RFE the "Y" pipe is before the trans pan,if you have the 42RLE the "Y" pipe is after the trans pan which leads to different lengths where the "CAT Back" system starts. They lumped the '03's with the '02's since that was the transistion year to the 42RLE and you could gave anything.

it has 3..two at front and one in the back. thanks for the explantion. Was thinking taking 2 of them out but too much trouble to fool the sensors.

completley ignoring legalities in some counties/states--

the 3rd and larger cat doesn't have a sensor after it *whistle*

-I didn't notice that my 3rd cat was missing until last month and TJKJ and some of the other guys helped me figure out to some degree of certainty that the PO or Dealer had removed it for whatever reason

after some phone calls and talks with inpectors, since so many vehicles have so many different configs of cats and since theres no specification on the inspection machine to say how many are supposed to be there

well, you can read into that as much as you want

It answered a few of my questions as to why my KJ sounded throatier, louder and rumblyer than other same year kj's who still had stock mufflers, it almost sounds like it's got a magnaflow or thrush

My friend did say he could remove the back one but it would mean more noise in the back which could be rough on my passengers so I decided to keep this one civilized. in fact more comforable than my offroad cherokee. May start researching some better seats...cool wheels..already have a tricked out radio/cd/tape player...All well thanks again... 8)
