if you NEED a certain drive type to get through ANY inclement weather, your license should be revoked and you should take the bus. aside from my 86 Civic WagoVan (and honestly, that's not much of an exception, since I used it for huntin), all my 4wd vehicles have been purchased for exploring regions that "normal" cars, 2 wheel drive or not, couldn't get to. in fact, during winters in Michigan, I parked my CJ-7 and drove my Thunderbird, because it was BETTER under those conditions. if you can't handle a little ice/snow with a powerful, lightweight RWD vehicle with a locker or limited slip diff, hitch a ride with your grandmother.
now, wouldn't you guys think that the Compass/Patriot would make a nice addition to an all-American invasion of the WRC? think about it, the Compass blazing across Africa in the Safari rally, snorkeled out with that crazy tube bumper crap they put on there for that rally? or sliding sideways in Europe donkey-punching the crap outta the Peugeots and Mitsus and Subarus?
if nothing else, it'd be fun to blast down some fireroads or something, and there's always the possibility of the SRT4 engine and an SRT version.
Yeah, I use to think the same thing when I was young, growing up on a farm and not knowing any better. Didn't take watching DAKAR to make me realize the benifits of 4wd till I got a 2wd dual wheel tractor stuck and used a 4wd version (to pull out the 2wd version). 4WD abilities has been embraced by the farm and construction industry for years. Having lived in WI and MI.. I've had to deal with the way idiots with 2wd cars drive in bad weather not having a clue to realize they don't have to clearance or traction to push 2 feet of snow or get up that ramp so they drive 5mph holding up everyone who thinks they can do better.

.. I wish they would take your advise and hitch a ride with the bus. But guess they called granny insted because they drive like her..

JUST STAY HOME for gods sake. Like I said, from my 2 years of driving my KJ. Having 4wd was the difference of getting out or waiting for a tow. Hand nothing to do with ones ability, just the law of physics.

So I'm lazy and don't know how to drive.. give me a break.. I'm just learning the michigan way..
