Is it possible to remount the antenna on to the drivers side? Is there a special bracket on the passanger side for it? The reason I ask is because I am going to install a snorkle this weekend and want to keep the antenna. Is there any other options besides sirus or xm? How a bout a smaller one that mounts to the roof?

Crutchfield has a window-mount unit that looks like it would do a nice job, only $20.

throwin an idea out there..

do the Euros mount the antenna on the left side instead of the right since the driver positions are flipped?

If so any necessary stuff may be euroed

but couldn't you just reuse mounting hardware on the other side? maybe put a trail badge over the old hole on the passenger side or something?

The export models (RHD models anyway, Europe, Australia, etc) use an inboard antenna in the right rear quarter-window. Probably pricey as all get out if you went that route. You could mount the antenna on the driver's side but you would need to either re-route the connecting cable from the radio or by an extension to get over the where it mounts on the passenger side. The antenna actually uses a two-piece cable, first section is from the antenna to a connector behind the passenger kick panel (with a standard Motorola end on it), the second section is from the kick panel to the radio and has a proprietary(?) connector to attach to the radio.

Anybody with more knowledge is welcome to shoot me full of holes, I'm just going on what I have seen when taking the radio out of the console and when I installed my Sirius FM modulator unit.

Of course if you wanted to be unique you could drill a pair of 1/4" or so holes vertically thru the snorkel, then run some plastic tubing thru the holes and route your antenna up thru that :P Might cause a bit of a whistle or some other odd sounds in the snorkel though... :?

You know I was thinking about that and it doesnt sound like a bad idea. Im not sure if the mount is in the way though. I will look more in to it. I have also seen fin style antennas and thought about that. Thanks for a the responces by the way.

My antenna is sitting in a box somewhere.Get Sirius and you'll never need that antenna again.
No seriously,I'm going to remount that thing one day.If Sirius ever goes under.
The antenna is held on by a locknot style bracket. Will have a hole in your fender if remounted with stock parts.
Best bet is to leave the bracket there(minus antenna),and relocate the wire to another antenna.

I have a few 'coaster' sized USMC unit coins , i'm sure the army has similar stuff, He could use one of those over the hole

Doesn't the snorkel (if it's the one I'm thinking of) have a recess molded into it for the antenna or export side marker lights? Yeah here it is, this is a pic of Pallas' install down Oz way (I just put the yellow hi-lite on the notch to make it stand out):

yes, i have wondered why they couldn't make it a little different for us u.s.er's, but i'm sure there is a major cost thing there.

I want a snorkel but no money...

You cant have the snorkle on the drivers side because the air box is on the passangers side. Once I get the holes cut out and the snorkle mounted to the fender I can get a better idea on how to do it. I have a couple of good ideas but Im held up since I dont have it together in front of me. I will post pics and the write up on the build on what ever I choose. I think it will help others when it comes down to it.

if you can find someone to import a pass rear quarter glass the antenna is in the glass and then there will be no need to relocate it.

I don't know about scout, but I would probably drag a window mount antenna off on branches

would be great if you didn't stick your jeep in folage that was too small for the jeep hehe

Wow, you go thru brush that's thick enough to remove an antenna mounted on the inside of the front windshield? I'm not sure if I wanna wheel with you! :P

You have no idea how much brush I go thru  . I have so many scuff marks on my rig its not even funny. I was on an old tank trail that wasnt used for years. It was so over grown by the time I wanted to turn around it was to late  . I just drove on and made a new path. I am putting a roof tent on my rig in the next few months and have plans for a rugged roof rack. Its going to protect the tent and the lights I get. I dont know how much its going to weigh but its going to be a beast. I might go with the window mount but I like to do new things... lol. Anyway I think I got it figured out... I just go to take the fenders off. Have you seen a side pic with the snorkle and the hole from the antenna? If so could you post it so I can see how visible it is.
