Ok on my wifes 06 renegade had a little rough idle and it was fine and then one day the CEL light came on. so we ran some fuel injector cleaner and got the codes pulled and it was number 5 misfire. disconnected the battery to clear the light and it was fine for a little while then the roughness came back and so did the light. This time i never cleared the codes but the light shut off the next day? So now i have changed the plugs to the autolite platinums as "recomended" off this site. it seems a lot better now but still a little rough.

sorry got a little long,

but what do you guys recommend next to smooth out the idle?

Thanks,
Marc

if it's still misfiring on 5 after the new plug maybe it needs a new coil on that plug?

try swapping the coil pack on cylinder #5 onto another cylinder see if the code changes. If it does, you found your problem, need a new coil pack.

if you have any knocking or noise like that, it could also be loose rocker arms.
I had two come loose over the winter, it threw cylinder misfire codes,
and with all of the noise it was making, I thought I had blown the engine.
Turns out that it was only a $100-$200 fix. whew.

Ok well my wife just told me that the CEL came back on today. Last time is was the 0300 random misfire, this time it was 0305 which i think is Number 5 so now i will just switch that to a different one and see if it follows.

Which cylnder is number 5?

The rough idle is still there but comes and goes so i am starting to think it might be the ECU.

Thanks,
Marc

I moved my coil packs and I still get 5 and 6 New plugs were installed.
Can you PM ME more details about the rocker?
