Been a while, but here's the justs

Bought her the 04 liberty back in the summer of 08' from a ford dealer, was running a little ruff and after some BS it was found to have low compresion and required $1700+ in repairs...after more BS I told the Ford dealer to stick it and pay to transfer the remaining 7/70 from jeep to the libby and the jeep dealer fixed it (the Ford dealerpayed for every thing including the deduct and fluids) this was a@ 64,000 miles.

While she is on spring break so I had the jeep dealer take a look at the trany 68,000+ miles (has been acting funny) and got the call " we are going to rebuild the tranny with all new clutches, seals, oil pump and new Torque converter...WOOHOO for the $100 deduct and warranty. (and a couple of friends that work at the dealership :D :P)

I have to say, of all the cars I have owned I have never had this many MAJOR problems with any of them. I dought we would every buy another libby (under warranty or not.)

So how many others have had this many issues with theirs? :D :P

Rebuilt the clutch last summer at about 81k and my mechanic said that was pretty good given the larger tires & offroading done. Other than that normal maintenance until now.

But HOLY COW! 121k on original brakes!?!?!? i thought i was doin' good at 87k.

!43,000 miles and the only thing that has broken that I didn't cause by offroading was the AC compresser.

How many times have you changed the tranny oil? How many times did the previous owner change the tranny fluid? What kind of tranny oil did they use? Did they abuse it? Did they tow with it? Do you tow with it?

I cannot recall ever reading someone having the tranny rebuilt in a kj with less than 70k miles.
:)

I have had MANY problems with girl friends though. Just couldnt keep her 'maintained.'

Mine was rebuilt twice at 22,000
Second time was because the dealer steam cleaned the case the first time... Idiots....

You bought it used.

I will bet you that the prior owner had the tranny serviced and fluid changed at a shop that put the WRONG FLUID in it. The tranny needs ATF+4 or there WILL be problems. Most tranny problems are caused by people using the wrong fluids.

Just my opinion.

ThunderbirdJunkie's KJ, 128 and change.

Replaced:
front pads/rotors...rear drums/shoes still original
radiator twice (2nd one was a 3rd party warranty issue, not a KJ issue)
Serpentine belt
shocks/springs (Gee, wonder why:))
Tires (OE Wrangler ST's gone at 50k, Cooper S/T's replaced@98k, MT/R's about to be replaced and sold to somebody else)
Bushings in UCA's are trashed...so replacing UCA's with some cheapies 'till it's tall enough to need aftermarket arms...balljoints are fine
Lower balljoints...on its 3rd set...next set is Moog
uh...

Aside from regular fluid maintenance

Nothin' else.

Diffs every 50k/whenever it's in deep water (not yet gone 50k...), trans every 30k (flush, drop pan/change filter, then fill), Synthetic oil change every 5k miles...rotate tires every 3k...

ThunderbirdJunkie must be doing something wrong if parts are not breaking
