Well, I just got back from wheeling in Uwharrie. Had a blast. But today I ended up breaking a cv axle (driver's side). The bad part is it broke right at the end of the splines. So I have the end still inside the housing. Any ideas on how to get that out? My best thought right now is to drill a small hole in it, tap it, put an eye bolt in it and pull it out. The other option is, of course, to pull the whole diff out and take it apart.

It has a DTT in it. I don't remember if it is hollow all the way through. If so, I might be able to pull the passenger shaft and push it out from the other side with a rod or pipe.

I will probably need to replace the driver side seal too. Can this be done with the diff still in the vehicle? (Never done this before). If I have to pull it to replace the seal, I can just do it all at once.

Yes you can pull out the front seals with the diff still in....

Good luck with the broken shaft though...
Your method may work... drill and tap...

I would just pull out everything... Get all new parts... Sand it... and paint it red and black!

Try a strong magnet,if that does not work you will need to pull the other CV and use a very long screwdriver(or similar) and push it out.The TT is hollow all the way through.

Thanks. I was thinking I remembered it being hollow all the way through when I put it in. I'll need something longer than a scredriver though. The passenger side has that intermiate shaft tube.

I was able to get this out. I wanted to post the solution for anyone in a similar situation. Note that this only works if you have the DTT installed in the front (or another hollow locker/Limited Slip).

I pulled the axle on the other side (passenger's in this case) and put a skinny broom handle all the way through the axle tube, the diff, and the DTT and drove the broken off axle stub out the driver's side. The wooden broom handle should prevent damaging internal gears and such.
