Just replaced th front upper control arm bushes because of an elusive clunking sound. Prossibly now need to have a steering alignment?

OK ...so now I how a clunk/thud in the rear. Investigations reveal a very "stuffed" ball joint in the control (boomerang) arm.

I have priced a 2nd hand complete unit from Jeeeep recyclers @ $330, or a brand new ball joint only @ $150. Any thoughts???????

Check what the other control arm bushes are like, at the body, and see if they need replacing as well, then it comes down to what all that would cost plus fitting, or just the whole arm for 330.00.

Let us know how you go...

Oh and where are you getting the parts from, I couldn't find em anywhere.......

Priced the Ball Joint from Leo Muller parts. No stock in Bris. but a week in from Melbourne.

Hmmm, thats odd, when I first called them they said you couldnt get it as a sep part, you had to buy the whole thing complete, 1100.00 smackers

Hmmmm...............There was no hesitate when asked the question. " Vin Number? Yep sure sure $175. We have no stock here but can have it o/n from Mlbne extra $15. Or we can order in on our normal freighting system, about a week, and can disc to $150"

mate - there's a s/h transmission and transfer case on ebay for a CRD KJ.
May pay to check it out

Well I finally have the KJ back, (actually it was ready to pick up last friday) and all is good again.
Total bill was $5308.00 $3800 was for the tranny and transfer case so it not so bad I think.

Mate did you buy an Atlas transfer case and not tell us as I hope you darn that's expensive,
well the upside is all fixed and going again.

Just received the KJ back after having the rear control bushings and Ball joint replaced........All seems well.
1 hours' labour to remove existing from the arm (boomerang) and replace with new.

Once again... the KJ was in for mechanical repairs.............

During last week-end trip to Yuraygir NP (whilst LOST in the NP tracks) we noticed a clicking sound during the exceloration and deceloration. Performance in 2wd and 4wd seemed normal, although the "clicking" seemed to be only noticably whilst in 4wd.

The work shop (Danny) inspected and located the problem in the rear drive shaft universal joints. The U/Joint in one of the shaft being badly "chewed up". We replaced both ends with a heavier truck type with grease nipple (@approx 10% of the Jeep replacement part

)

All good again

.........however towing Millie may not have helped in the U/Joint's demise :roll:
