It being a nice day, 84 degrees at the beach I decided to go surfing. I parked my Jeep in the lot facing south, and put my sun and reading glasseshung by thier neck cords on the rear view mirror. After about 1-1/2 hrs I returned and opened the Jeep, I looked at the drivers seat, it had a bright spot on it like you would get from a magnifing glass, holy sh-t, my glasses are trying to light my seat on fire. I now have a 3" long scorched mark on my leather seat, it was getting darker near the end, and might have caused a real fire. Imagine that torching your car with your reading glasses.

Several years back I had a 1 liter soda bottle in my center consol of my XJ(where the parking brake is)

So then when the sun hit it, and went through the round part of the bottle top it acted like a magnifying glass, melted a part of the console.........

When I was growing up the neighbor lit one if his fields on fire with a gallon jug. Of course in those days they were glass jugs and he had his drinking water in it. He set it on the ditch bank on a patch of dry weeds and the sun started his ditch bank on fire  . Luckily he was irrigating anyway, so he got it put out pretty quick. Old Man Sun is a mighty powerful fella in the right circumstances.
