Post subject: Question for all you camera nerds out there
PostPosted: Thu Apr 23, 2009 1:46 am
So, is there a digital SLR camera that can take good video?

ThunderbirdJunkie is interested in what amounts to a PT job for an RC car website. here's the "job" listing
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/announcement.asp?id=261

He possesses all the other requirements...and would really LOVE to have this gig...like his plate wasn't full enough...but still.

Any suggestions? Would hate to give this up just because of a lack of equipment. Also, not too proud to buy used;)

(that's what she said  )

Most cameras produced in the last few years will do video as well as multiple images per second - make sure you read all of the tech specs, you'll probably have to buy memory upgrades - but memory's cheap.

however most of the time - people willing to pay someone to do this kind of work - want examples of things you've already done i.e they want you to be able to take photos - write up a story and have it in publication ready format.

Have you done that? do you have examples from different fields? (different hobbies - previous jobs ect) Have you tried that for your KJ?

It's not unusual for someone to have to do that for free - for a while - to develop the Resume, the Portfolio - neccessary to get paid.

In fact if you really want it - volunteer to do it for free for a month - to prove what you can do.

The Nikon D90 shoots video, but I'm a canon fanboy and I'm liking the Canon 5D Mark II.

Here's a video shot on the 5D

It's not a paid job. Basically, you review stuff, and get to keep what you review.

Labor of love and all that;)

Do you need a dslr? Can you live with a high end point and shoot that takes video?

Since ThunderbirdJunkie said he was none too proud to consider used, I recommend ThunderbirdJunkie visit a Wolf camera or other "professional type" camera shop, or even a Pawn Shop and buy a used Mini-DVD (video) camera. TBJ should also call around to see what's available. Pro shop's will or should even steer him in the right direction if they know someone who deals in used video equipment.

Not DSLRs!

Only the most recent highest end DSLRs shoot video.

And they are exceptionally expensive, I mean more expensive than your Jeep expensive.

I have a Canon 5DMK2 and yes it will shoot digital video at 1080P! In fact the video would blow you mind! Keep the cameral steady and people will think you professionally made the video your looking at.
