So, I've discovered a few things, and am trying to figure out the best course of action.

#1 The wifey's jeep has always had issues going into gear when cold. You'd literally have to let it sit for 1-2minutes before trying to put it in gear, or it wouldn't engage. While it was still under warranty we took it in to the dealership, and they said they couldn't find anything wrong (BS). Well... I've since found out there's a TSB on it, but that dealership has since gone out of business (big shocker) and the jeep is out of warranty... so we're SOL.

#2 In the last week or two, it's started shifting REALLY hard 2-3. Slamming into 3rd gear, it's pretty ugly. I'm assuming at this point the transmission is going to have to be rebuilt. Anyone have suggestions on the best course of action if we go through with having the thing re-built as to any upgraded parts I should look at purchasing so the thing lasts a bit longer the second time around?

And any suggestions for transmission shops in Minnesota to do the work?

if there is a TSB on it then under warranty or not it should be taken care of by a dealer.

Pretty sure TSB's you pay for if it's not under warranty. Recalls are covered, TSB's are not (unless you've heard otherwise, would be news to me).

In the 3year/36,000mile warranty a TSB is covered, outside that warranty period a TSB is on your dime.Recalls are free no matter what since they are a safety issue.

I specifically asked my local dealer that question a couple of weeks ago, and they are under the impression that once a TSB always a TSB. They are changing out my lower ball joints next week free of charge and my 7/70 expired two weeks ago. I don't know where in Minnesota you live, but I'm only about an hour and a half from the Twin Cities, in Rice Lake.

Ya, we brought it in with 30k miles, and they didn't fix it claiming their was no TSB. At the time, I had no way to verify if they were full of it or not. I don't see any other dealer honoring their mistake either.

Dealers in the US are different than in Germany, Hoffinghoef would do the TSB for free.

The LBJ's are under a recall, actually there are 2 recalls for the LBJ's which make them free no matter what.

If there is a record of your complaint in chrysler's system back when you were under warranty and no work was done, I would definitely use that as a negotiating point now that you are out of warranty.

I think my trans is going also, would shift a little hard once in a while but this weekend I made the mistake of pulling my buddies 1500lb fishing boat and now its all screwed up. I am also wondering what the best method of rebuild is and which parts to put in it. Any recommendations?

I found these guys:
http://sharadon.com/sdparts.htm

I'm going to give them a call tomorrow. I'm thinking it might be cheapest to just buy one of their stageII transmissions and a Suncoast TC and call it a day. That should (in theory) be bullet proof for the life of the jeep, even with a programmer. We'll see.

It'll take it a few minutes to adjust back to normal after towing. After I tow my trailer it shifts a bit hard for a few minutes and then realizes it ain't towing anymore.

After towing 3,000 lbs enclosed trailer cross country it takes a few days for shifting to go back to normal.

Well it threw the check engine light and wont get into OD, not sure this is the case for me, but its nice to be able to hope for this.

I'll get the code off it tonight. Thanks guys.

SharaDon Performance - 545RFE STAGE - III Transmission
$2800.00
-Now I know that its a much better trans, but that's a big jump over a $700 18k mile, used tranny. If you tow a lot yeah, but I dont tow a whole lot. This was my first tow with the CRD, and I broke it SWEET. thanks for the link... Not sure on what I should do.

Is that a performance trans built for the HEMI guys? I recall reading a post a few weeks back about the clutch packs or something not standing up to the diesel (shrug). Also, when you can adjust the electronics, to me its a waste of money to drop on a built trans, but that's just me.

A waste of money is buying a new transmission after 50,000 miles because the one dodge put in from the factory couldn't stand up to the engine. $2100 for one that should last the life of the vehicle is money well spent in my book.

How is a transmission built for 500ft/lbs tq not going to stand up to a crd?

So... $700 for a transmission that's going to break in another 2 years, or $2100 (I'm not sure why you'd get a stage3 if you aren't racing) for one that will last?
