A good weekend was had by all.
Wasn't sure if we would make it, as when out shopping on Thurs evening the Inferno suddenly started firing on only 3 cylinders - which makes it virtually undrivable, believe me. I nursed it home round the back roads and was manoeuvring to get Barney out of the garage when it suddenly came good again. Took it to Albion on Friday after lunch and they plugged in the diagnostic tool which merely said "Multiple misfire" - which I knew already! Anyway we decided to head off and the Inferno hasn't missed a beat since.
Arrived at Yuraygir around 6 in the pouring rain (which J.a.G said had only just started!) and set up camp. Rain eased off and we sat around the campfire until bedtime.
Saturday morning we got the canoes in the water and paddled round to Lake Arragan, stopping on the way back for a picnic lunch - then a relaxing afternoon at camp. I cooked a Pipeliner casserole for tea - must remember that cayenne pepper is hotter than paprika!
Sunday we decided to drive to Minnie Waters. J.a.G got directions from the Park Ranger and we set off, only to become hopelessly lost in the forest! The only map we had was the 250,000:1 on my GPS which gave only a vague indication of tracks, but it did lead us eventually on to a good dirt road where we decided to stop for lunch.
A word of caution here - when both sets of keys are in the car DON'T try and release the tailgate by pressing the switch on the door DOWN. If you do this and then close the door you will find yourself in the embarrassing situation of having to call Jeep Assist to come and open the car for you - which is even more embarrassing when they ask where you are and the only response you can make is "On a track in the forest somewhere west of Brooms Head".
Fortunately a dual cab ute came by with 4 young surfers in it, one of whom was able to tell the tow truck driver exactly how to get to us, and he turned up 40 minutes later (from Grafton) and opened the car for us - which got us back to camp just as G was building the fire so that J could put the lamb roast on!
Sunday night the rain started again and turned the camp into a series of lakes and streams. The rain continued all night but fortunately stopped in the morning and enough sun came out to ensure that we weren't packing saturated canvas for the trip home.
