i purchased the all gig plug and play unit with the A/V harness( so if i want in the future to wire a cam. the PnP unit was 289 and the harness was 64.. not bad considering its a hell of a lot easier then lockpick which i did research on and customer service aint great and in order to upgrade it it requires taking the entire unit out to flash it. this is just USB

We just rented a Chrysler Town & Country van while we were on vacation a couple of weeks ago.

It had the rear view camera. The video resolution wasn't the best, but it was good to make sure you weren't going to hit anything.

And I don't know what they use for a camera, but it did great at night with just the backup lights on. The video was nice and bright and very usable at night. I was surprised.

Now, I'm wanting a mygig in my KK.

We have the mygig with rear cam, Sirrius Radio and TV and Rear VES with 2 rear TV screens on our 08 Dodge Grand Caravan and yes that backup view is amazingly good at night. Only thing that gets to it is when too much dirt gets on there or road spray you have to wipe off the camera eye.

What does this hack get you as a benefit? Only thing I'm missing at this time is the uconnect/voice calling (have the buttons but I guess it was an extra module) and the lock out for when I'm driving.

The hack makes everything available when the vehicle is in motion. It allows you to input things into the navigation, watch a dvd and pull up the rear view camera all while the vehicle is in motion.

Just as an FYI, front seat video is very illegal and very dangerous. The screen is very visible from the outside and will warrant and nice sized ticket if you get caught.

It doesn't matter if you watch it or not, if the video is on in the front seat and a cop catches you you will get a very big ticket. The ticket is a moving violation and you will get points on your license.

I'm sure you will do it anyway ... I'm just giving you a heads up ...

yeah i'm gunna do it anyway... but thanks for the heads up... i mean its as bright as the regular radio so if i dont get pulled over for that i wont get pulled over for the video. i mean i can see if i was doing something else like speeding and the guy pulled me over and i had that on he'd give me another ticket, but i dont speed really anyway... and on top of that if i were to get pulled over ever... the first thing i would do out of respect would be lower my music or turn the radio off all together

its not a matter of it being bright ... its the video. at night if a cop pulls next you he can tell if its you radio/nav or a movie or music video playing on the screen. obviously he won't pull you over for your radio/nav screen but if he sees its a video you'll be screwed.

something tells me from this thread that you are a kid ... maybe teens or early twenties ... im not trying to pick on you ... you might think its cool but I've seen and known people that got into accidents with less distraction then a movie in the front seat. you can say the movie is for the passenger only all you want but the reality is that you will take ur eyes off the road to "glance" at the movie and that 1 or 2 seconds your eyes are off the road anything can happen. don't kill yourself because you want to be "cool" ...

enjoy your new toy

+ 1

And besides - if the passenger really wants to watch a movie whilst on the highway...

What's wrong with the backseat?

you are correct, i am 19. and i understand your point of 1 or 2 seconds... believe me i do. but i am really not one of those arrogant kids who thinks they can do w.e. they want. i know myself and i know i wont glance... hell i dont even look at the radio when i wanna change station i either use my hand controls or ask the passenger... and i understand your point about the cop... but the cost for me to install back seat displays would have been a lot more then the cost of this product. plus this product enables me to add a cam for backing up. i dont want to come off as some arrogant teenager. i understand the rules of the road and i know myself. i know it only takes 1 second to make a disaster. but whats important to me is that i know i drive responsibly, and i know alot of kids say that, but how many teen drivers do you know who have their class B license or have taken 3 defensive driving classes ( not to remove any points, but to lower insurance and be a better driver). i'm not the average teenager. hell i work on my car, i worked in an auto-body shop from age 6 to 12. i'm not flaming and nor do i want to be flamed. i appreciate your comment and your warning about police. thank you... but what this thread was really about if if anyone had questions about the product etc.

I can totally sympathize. I wouldn't bother with a DVD for most times when my wife and I are in the Jeep, but we do some cross-country drives, and it would be nice to have the functionality. I can live with listening to a movie while my wife watches the movie, so it would be less of a hazard than when I look down at the Nav, or look at the info for the Sat radio. And like you said, installing in the back seat is expensive and really - I'm going to tell my wife to get in the back with the dogs and luggage so she can watch a movie?! I'd be watching the movie from the roof!

Having said that, I'm not really thinking about getting any of the MyGIG hacks, so she'll just use a portable DVD player, but really, how different is that than if the MyGIG was showing the movie?

Whatever you do, drive safe. If you don't care about yourself, watch out for the other guy - you never know who's around you.
