Is there any way to drain the fuel out of the filter prior to unscrewing? Short of running the engine till it is out of fuel? I'm not exactly comfortable hammering a screwdriver into it, like my dad taught me to do with oil filters.

Definitely not recommended to run the filter dry, seeing as the fuel outlet is at the top of the head. If you can reach it, you might be able to pull out the water sensor after you unplug it, before you spin off the filter. But it's still going to make a mess.

Back to the original Q.....of course you know where we last met. ;-) Not too many sources in Spokane so I fill up in Issaqua when I get a chance.

Ok Im getting ready to go pick up my new (to me) CRD KJ. I have a B100 pump (B50 in the winter) here in town. I was wondering how many of you have run bio and what your thoughts on it are? This truck has 43,000 miles and I dont think its had any bio. So, if I can run a few tanks through and clean everything out then change the fuel filter Id be pretty happy.

Thanks.

Tom

If you're referring to the Grange, I've filled up there a few times with no problems. Other than smelling like chinese takeout while driving down the road. :-)

Been running 100% and then blends a weather permits since mile 200. No fuel issues. You problably gonna change out that fuel filter.

As a new owner, I'd check the Tech section. Elephant hose mod, clean out MAP, do the Off-road mod of some-sort. Then check the fuel filter head for the burned out fuel heater plug (listen for the collective grown of this forum as I beat this dead horse again).

ps my MAP is super nice and only lightly dry dusty after 50k mi, for those who wonder. I don't credit the biodiesel, this is a Elephant Hose thing. Will post pix eventually.

Anyhow, enjoy yer tractor!
