I used a t fitting and a 6" steel braided hose for the guage sender in my Celica. I did this because the senders of the day would tend to break under vibration.

The best place is to use a T-fitting at the oil pressure sensor that is right above the oil filter.

feedback through the system (perceive as static) that apparently confuses the computer and makes it do strange stuff such as shut off abruptly

2 issues

1) timeout - the CRD electrical system is a kluge -

Quote:
When DCX designed the Liberty they used an ISO9141-2 body computer for the diagnostics. When they added the Italian diesel option, it had its own ISO9141-2 controller for diagnostics so they connected the two together. This is not allowed on ISO9141-2. They almost pulled it off, but then on one of the controllers they put in a software bug that causes one of them to go to sleep after a while. This is why part of the data stops. The only way to wake it up is to re-initialize the controller, but the ScanGaugeII will not do this unless the RPM stops being reported. This is needed so it will know when to go to sleep itself.

occasionally it'll run for 20-30 minutes - but eventually communication to the scangauge stops.

2) that doesn't mean the scangauge stops - it continues to poll the system buss - so randomly it'll overload the buss and the transmission controller gets confused - at that point it kicks out of overdrive. - Disconcerting at 70mph

Thanks AT. It's a shame really. I have a SG on my TDI Jetta and it's a nice piece of gear to have. That said Im not going to mess with it for my CRD.

Yep, it is a useful tool that is a decent size and at a decent price. With the bus polling set at low it did ok. However, it would still cause the trans computer to go AWOL every now and then, so it is now just a diagnostic tool.
