So last night I got in the Jeep which Liz had been driving all day and noticed the CEL was on. "Yes, it's been like that since this morning!"

So this morning I wasted an hour going to Albion Jeep to get the diagnostic check done and it turned out to be "Clutch pedal switch fault". WOW!! Earth-shattering!! Call roadside assist immediately!!

Why oh why can't they show the CEL in, say, green for stuff like that, amber for 'keep driving but get it checked ASAP' and red for 'turn off now before you explode'!! Prevent a lot of heart failure that way.

That would be a smart idea I can't see why it hasn't been done cause even for the people that don't know anything about mechanical they would at least get an idea of how bad the situation could be. PS thanks for the offer of the hole saw but I do have one, just the thought of cutting into the interior plastic is a bit scary, but doable.

The check engine thing is a pain - mine seems to have two modes - orange and flashing orange. Apparently, from memory the handbook says orange is ok to drive about and it might even fix itself ( how I don;t know) and for flashing it says stop turn it off and get out.

After the last couple of times I now have the list of CEL codes printed out in the boot, a little bit of on-off-on-off-on-off-on ( might be one more) and up pop the codes and then I check out how bad it might be and decide from there.

Since the last service, its only come on once more and for the new O2 sensor after the cat. How hard is it to push two connectors together properly

Came on again yesterday - I've ordered a Scangauge from Wooders so I can see the codes without continually going to Albion. The ignition on-off-on trick has never worked for me.

The key trick is ....on-off-on-off-on and you must do it within 5 seconds. It works on my 05. Took me a few times to actually do it right. Off is not actually off but the first key position and on is the position before start. So unless they did something to the 06 version of the KJ it should work.

The MIL(Malfunction Indicator Light) light does tell you how serious the problem is...............

Solid light MIL = get looked at ASAP

Flashing MIL = Shut down engine ASAP,damage is occurring or will in short order if kept running.

I've had my ABS light on since they installed my new DTT in the front, I think they may have buggered one of the front hub sensors???

But, I finally got the KJ back Friday Morning from installing the DTT in the rear.... Wont go into it but it involved frantic seach Australia wide for Crown bolts......

So after cancelling Caths Birthday trip to Straddie, we settled for a Long weeked at Springbrook..So I pick up the car Friday Morning, Do my own wheel alignment..... then on the way home, engine check light comes on!!!!!! So check code p0038, o2 sensor, so no worries, lets keep going, halfway down the coast, brake light comes on.....OK, lets have a look, brake fluid looked low, so topped it up, light went out, right, lets keep going... 15 mins down the road, brake light comes back on....Hnmmmmmmm... then, the speedo starts to drop and says 30km, (were doing 110km) slowly to drops to zero... Right, we stop, I check the rear diff sensor connection, even pull out th esensor and give it a wipe down, just incase its dirty (thank Ross), we start off, great, brake light goes out, speedo working,....10 mins down the road same again....so that means its something to do with diff temp or maybe the wrong oil fouling the rear sensor, ..??? I dont know, but for the rest of the trip, (we stop for fuel) sensor works for 15mins, then stops working......????


I'm at a loss.

Man I'd stop going to that place,they messed up alot of stuff on your KJ and from your explaination it was all caused by work they did.

Check the wires on the rear diff sensor plug.
Mine broke (the conductor inside the wires) adjacent to the plug.
The wires looked fine, but i could get the fault to trip by getting under the car and playing with the wire (slight tug and the error light would light up).

Easy fix, detach the plug, cut a bit of wire and re-solder.
