Seems if i press my brakes and keep pushing hard they will fade to the floor. I have bled them multiple times and called the dealer about this. They said all crd's do this and its nothing to be alarmed about. True? Not True?
Stops fine. Just making sure before i order a new MC

Mine recently started to do this, it hasn't done it b/4. I'm looking for leaks, have check pads and watching the fluid level but i think mine is a problem with the master cylinder. If Master is bad you normally will lose pedal(pedal fades away) but you don't lose any fluid. WIll be ordering a new master cylinder shortly.

I think every car I've driven in the last 10 years did the same thing. Including my Liberty and my former GC. Just hold pressure long enough and down it goes.

I wonder if that has anything to do with the ABS system. My 98 jetta tdi did not have ABS and the pedal was always rock hard. I just changed my system over to valvoline synthetic and the pedal feels very hard all the time.

Our CRD did this too. When I posted about it here, other folks replied that theirs did it too.

I was not being sarcastic, this is pretty typical in my world, and others have reported the same thing(and also been concerned).

Hmmm, it should if you have anti-loc brakes. You need to press pretty hard but it should sink slowly towards the floor.

Both of my CRDs have ABS and neither does this. You must be standing on the pedal like an elephant or your MC has a slow leak.

Right out of the '05 FSM,a falling pedal is not normal or acceptable at all and very dangerous.

Quote:
PEDAL FALLS AWAY
A brake pedal that falls away under steady foot
pressure is generally the result of a system leak. The
leak point could be at a brake line, fitting, hose, or
caliper. If leakage is severe, fluid will be evident at
or around the leaking component.
Internal leakage (seal by-pass) in the master cylinder
caused by worn or damaged piston cups, may
also be the problem cause.
An internal leak in the ABS or junction block may
also be the problem with no physical evidence.

No, it shouldn't. No properly functioning ABS system should do it. That doesn't mean that it is necesarily dangerous. I have had many old vehicles which did it for many miles until I got around to changing out the master cylinders.

Even with ABS the pedal should not fall under steady pressure, there is a leak somewhere.

the guy on the phone from the dealer told me it was common with both crd's (gc and liberty) he said that all he has worked on did it and it and not to worry. I assume this means the gas ones don't (i tried it on one gas one and it was solid). Not sure why.

called 2 dealers and this was the answer i got.

I wonder if it has something to do with the brake boosting mechanism since diesel engines don't pull a vacuum at idle?

You have to press fairly hard to get it to do it. After you brake keep pressing with a steady foot. It will slowly fade (Hopefully). Try it out. For the crd owners that is. I tried it on my buddy's gas and it was solid.

I'll second what ribbon pointed out. It didn't happen with the normal pressure you'd apply at a stoplight - it takes a pretty good amount of force, and then it will very slowly sink. Thanks for the direct confirmation on the gasser, ribbon.

Where did you find this little false gem knowledge?
