Hey Guys,

I have a couple questions regarding lift kits. I've read alot of posts on here about Lifts and what to get but It just doesn't seem to sink in. So I was wondering if I could get some advice.

I'm looking for a a lift, but nothing bigger then a 4" lift. I have relatively new tires so I won't be getting more aggressive tires anytime soon, I just want more clearance under my jeep and the ability to put larger tires on when the money is there.

I was looking at a BDS suspension earlier, http://www.bds-suspension.com/kits/442H , and it has options for rear shocks (Rear Gas Shock Absorber) or not. What’s the difference if I get the new shocks?

And am I even smart to go with BDS? Are there better lifts out there that will give me more lift and a better ride for less?

Thanks for any help or advice you can give me, Im anxious to lift my liberty up and take her deeper in to the woods.

-Chris

Well if I could do it all over again and I have the bds which is a good kit but you need to get new front struts to complete the kit just because there isn't much point in compressing the springs and putting in the stock struts just to change them out real soon. It lifts the jeep up nice and keeps the cv angles at a good spot and won't be to hard on your front end. The bds kit was in canada close to where I live and getting something up here from the states can be a little pain in the stupid, but if I was in the states or felt like paying for shipping duty and blah blah blah the good things that happen to us when all the good stuff is in the states I would of went Frankinlift and been done with it more money but lift it once and be done with it. Been looking at tires and wanting to go to a 15 inch rim with a 31 inch tire and I don't know if bds would clear it without some help (clevis and iso lift). That is my 2 cent and I am sure your will get the Old man emu lift suggestion a thousand times which is a great lift by the way.

well first how much are you wanting to spend? you can do a complete suspension lift for about $650 shipped to you, and it will be the best you can buy

We installed a BDS kit in Sperb's Libby back in April (check the Ohio section for lift party) It used Rancho struts/shocks and came with new top plates and all hardware, looked like a decent kit. I may consider it when I do ours. He netted about 3 1/2" initially, probably settled alittle since.
Liek previously said, most people will recommend OME 927 front/928 rear and Rancho shocks, or go with a complete Frankie.

The price will vary depending on when you ask me, Right now since I havn't looked for any other toys to get, I'll go as high as 700 (including shipping). In a week it could be 500. The jeep dealership I'm thinking about having doing the install is a Rough Country dealer, I looked on their page and they have 3" lift for 359.95 http://www.roughcountry.com/jeep_liberty_3.html , But as im relativly new to the game of modifying a vehicle, I need help in finding the right lift.

If you want the most lift, go with the Frankenlift.

Fixed it

This is the lift I have and I love it. +1 on the upper control arms. I didn't upgrade mine and wish I had.

Well, maybe for you, I will most likely be going with Ranchos shocks when I do mine, but then that's the beauty of many parts out there, everyone has their own opinion and preferences, all of which can work :D

Haha, I originally wrote jeep to. But then I realized my knowledge of vehicles in general was rather limited.

So any opinions on the Rough Country lift kit? Or knowledge on it? http://www.roughcountry.com/jeep_liberty_3.html

get ome springs, what ever shocks and struts you want, and upper isolators and conduit nuts. i spent 400 for springs, 120 for shocks, struts are expensive, and the other stuff together is like 45

A little further down in the 4x4 section is a good thread you should browse through it might help a little with your decision before you even hear anyone else's reviews.

thanks I'll read through that again, Last time I read it it wasn't 4 pages.

So theoretically after I do the measurments, and If am sagging then I could just get new springs(??) and get more clearance under my jeep? But if I find my jeeps not sagging, that the 2007 springs are still holding strong, a lift would give me the height I want but will eventually start to sag?

Ehh, technically if you just replace your springs with new stock ones, yea it might raise you from where you are now, but it'll just put you back to stock. Unless you go with something like OME HD's then it'll raise you not only from where you are now, but also from what it was stock. If you upgrade your springs to something better than stock you need to replace your struts for the front and shocks for the rear. And yes i guess, no matter what you get it's going to settle after the initial install, how much it settles depends on the rating of the springs.

This is where it probably gets confusing, if you get a daystar 2.5" spacer it'll raise you 2.5" (2.5 inches from where it sits now, not from the stock height) but your stock springs / struts if their already sagging, will just continue to endure wear and sag more over time. That's why some people running spacer lifts are running 1.5" above stock vs people with the Frankenlift running ~2 - ~3" depending on how many conduit nuts and spacers they add. BTW LTT, this is why I think your lift height thread is awesome, it really shows the difference in lifts w/ time.

This is also why after installing a new suspension lift, like the frankenlift, where your replacing all the springs with taller heaver duty springs. You could actually gain up to 3 - 4" of "lift" from what you are now. Though because your stock springs are sagging say 1", your still only getting 2-3" of lift over what it came stock.

I wouldnt mess with RC, if you have to go cheap and do a spacer go with Daystar from Bouldbers, but if you want something that will last, and ride and handle better call Dirk at DPG Off-Road (316-776-9900) and tell him you would like to order some OME HD coils for the KJ front and rear and then call Heather at Boulderbars.com and tell her you would like to order the Ranchos shocks and struts for the KJ, all said and done it should be around $650, and then post up in your section and have a lift party.

Ok... So is a spacer lift just new HD springs basically? while a frankenlift is springs\shocks and struts? This is why im asking because I don't want to buy something that holds up and gives me the proper lift. This is my primary ride and I don't want to half A** it but I also don't want to break into my piggy bank for a frankenlift..
