All,

Good morning. Had an issue with my ABS yesterday and need some advise/help. Here is what happened; driving down the highway and the ABS warning light came on (did not touch the brake pedal). I pulled over and the ABS was, best I can describe it, initiating too early. Only a small amount of pedal pressure caused it to activate. The brakes were almost ineffective and dangerous. My temporary solution was to remove the fuse. Has anyone else had this issue? Any suggestions to fix? Thanks in advance.

Mine was doing that a while back. I replaced a wheel speed sensor on the front drivers side and it is good as new again.

Most brake places can diagnose the brake system and tell you what is wrong. I got lucky, they didn't charge me for the diagnostic even though I was doing the work myself.

Well, I swallowed my pride and took it to a dealership. What they found out is that the abs control module was bad - great. So, does anyone know where I can order one of these online? The dealership quoted me ~$260 - does that seem high? Thanks in advance.

You will be at the dealer anyways since they will have to program it anyway.

Program it? Really? The mechanic showed me how to change it - seemed easy. Its a 2006 model by the way.

Right from the '06 FSM..................
Quote:
NOTE: If the ABM module is being replaced with a
new ABM module it must be reprogrammed with
the use of a scan tool.

ABM- Anti-lock Brake Module

And the scan tool required is the DRBIII or StarScan

Well, I just got the price quote from a local dealership for the brake module; $239 for the part - not bad & $180 to install and program! They told me that it will take less than an hour. I must vent a bit - $180 for 4 bolts, a plug and pushing a few buttons on a computer! This is not rocket science. Ultimately, I will pay it but I do not like it.

I am also having ABS problems. On all but the gentlest stop, I feel a pulse like the ABS is working. If I stop hard I get the ABS and Stability lights. It stops fine but the problem is getting worse.

Does anyone know how to test the sensors?
Ohmmeter?
