I'd only need or want the one door. What do you guys think?

I don't like them.

1. The Doors look lame in those photo's anyway. I mean what's up with cutting the handles off but leaving the useless button knob without a handle?

2.But even if I had liked them, I sure wouldn't only do one door.

3. I fail to see how those doors will help nav against large rocks? What, you'd prefer your elbow / shoulder to take the brunt of rocks?!- The only functional purpose I could imagine would be the lack of forced pressure while you're submerged underwater. Maybe if you were doing African safari's I'd consider something like that - Maybe.

(Btw; AC is for soccer mom's & sissy's).

well, navigation over rock is simple with these doors, i have a huge scar ill show you on my shin from opening my door cuzi couldnt lean out that much, so this cut out makes it more accessible to see whats about to wreck your jeep

I'd agree with the tube door idea over the posted version. Personally I'd make a full tube door and skin it with vinyl like Wrangler softdoors. That way for DD you have your OEM doors, and when wheeling you have the tubes with as much or little element protection as you need at the moment.

I still think it will very difficult to make a tube door that fits well enough to cover up everything. Bending the tube in the exact lines of the door jam can't be easy. I do think if it was done and matched the lines perfectly, it would be amazing and my first choice, but I'm not going to spend the time and money to find out it isn't going to turn out the way I want. Not to mention the cost of getting a professional to canvas it for me so it didn't look like trash if I did it.

I wouldn't be keeping the single door on all the time. It would be swapped in for trail runs.
As far as navigation for rocks, all that door body that is cut out makes a huge difference in tire placement. It makes it so much easier to see and maneuver accordingly. I would smash my elbow now, just as I would with these doors, except now I have to hang farther out to see better. Where with these or tube doors I could lean more easily out the window.
The door handles being cut made it possible to get more door body cut out and more space which is the goal in the first place and the push button still works the same way it did before. Our KJ would have to be done differently because our handles don't have that button though.

I like the idea of it being easier to lean out and see rocks, but my concern would be the dd aspect. Seems like removing and installing the doors would be hard on hardware. It sucks to deal with sagging, misaligned doors, Hell, we have enough problems with the doors sealing already. Maybe save the idea for when it isn't the dd??? My $.02. I do like the concept though.

That is my biggest concern right now, the pain it will be to remove and replace the doors. Eventually it would cause excess wear and tear which would suck.

I have to admit I see the point for visibility, but having a KJ Limited with power / heated mirrors, I'd hate to lose that comfort feature. Regardless, that's something I would have no interest in doing to my KJ.

i got power mirrors, no heat tho

I suppose a waterproof molex or something in the door jamb would resolve that particular issue if someone with a LTD wanted to do it tho right?

My concerns would be wiring. I have to believe it would be a big pita to rig and install a quick wire disconnect, not to mention the KJ doors themselves.

yeah you're probably right, probably a pita, but from what i've seen of the wiring in my doors (don't know how different it would be from one with heated mirrors) it's doable, would need one for speakers and one for mirrors+heater if it's in the same bundle

The wiring disconnects really pretty easy. It is getting the brackets to line up and not be tweaked that is the problem. The wires would plug back in and work like normal since I'd be going to the junkyard to find a KJ driver door to do it anyway.

I wouldn't really want to do it to a limited either.

Oddball, then why do you have a KJ? Those are the same things TJ,XJ,YJ, CJ, and anything else "something J" said about the KJ when it came out. I'll take my AC over sucking dust and dirt anyday.

As for African Safari, you can have those doors for it. I prefer to keep the lions and hyenas further away from me an not have as easy an access to my flesh.

I like the versatility of having each. Depending on my mood I can go b$@#s out in the tj or be more finessed other times in the kj. Most of all I like JEEPIN period. Whenever and wherever. :D

Why not go hi tech? Here is an idea i have been wanting to try. Install a front and rear mounted camera hooked up to a display monitor in the cab. That way you can see what's in front and behind you with multiple camera 'eyes'.

I'm not a big tech guy when it comes to jeeps. I think tech stuff tends to break too easy in a heavily abused jeep. Maybe I am wrong.

Oh well, it was a shot. I may try it someday. I think it was the Liberator that had a camera mounted in the passenger side mirror that gave me the idea.

It isn't that is a bad idea or anything, but my tech skills are lacking and I would break it or it would break knowing my luck.

I hear you on the stuff breaking. I'm still deciding on a good place to mount a camera in the front because the front of my jeep takes a pounding. Last weekend i think i scratched the side of my jeep up so much i may be getting closer to that camo paint job than i realize. My side mirrors got wacked on branches so many times my passenger mirror stopped working.

Exactly. The more I can beat on it and not worry, the better.

tube doors are fugly on the kj. they dont look right with all the cut out space around where the door used to be. being that we have such limited options with our jeeps, we should support all functional ideas that come along. who knows what they will turn into. personally i would love a set of those doors. if you can make them marketable, you could make some serious $$ out there
