Part time or full-time?? You should never drive on blacktop with part time engaged. Fulltime is okay. Pretty easy to change the fluid and costs about $5/qt. Need 2 qts and about 10-15 minutes.

Maybe me figuring on breaking something would idicate we're talking about part-time 4x4. And me being pissed off at myself about it might indicate taht I know not to drive on pavement with it on.

The fluid is brandy new... Guess I'll be changing it anyway.

Cut him some slack, JohnB. I can't blame him for not taking anything for granted. That Part Time light is pretty obvious.

has your jeep made any odd noises since you took it out of 4h Mr. J?

That's what I was thinking... And I guess, based on the lack of binding, and the lack of any kind of clunk, pop, grinding or what have you when I took it out of 4wd yesterday, that the net steering on the trip has got to be roughly 0... Dunno if that's actually the case, but there certainly wasn't a lot of tension in the dif.

I'll keep you guys posted...

You might have stretched the belts a little bit. Something that might not cause a problem that you'd really ever notice.

if you had the stock tires - which suck - odds are that helped and allowed the tires to slip a little bit saving you some binding in the driveline.
