Why is this such a common problem with the Liberty oil pans? Are the threads in the pan weak or are there too few threads or are people crossthreading due to sloppy threads? Just curious so I know what to watch out for.
BTW, I tightened my plug a little more and the leak stopped.

i bought this, in M8 (same as my 4 cyl cummins in my 1942 dodge) and put them in both. it screwed in easily for about 3/4 and then got tight, so i just kept tightening it until the nylon washer touched the pan.... ill let you know how it works.

18MM-1.5, unless PO drilled/tapped it.... i did nothing and it was leaking 6" spot daily....

The pans are aluminum instead of steel.

And there's only about 4 or 5 threads.

And the original plug has a tapered shoulder that I think is to center the sealing washer that distorts the first few threads if the washer is not in place.

sorry just saw your post. yeah i did. my threads were completely done. It was a smooth bore. I drilled and then tapped with a tapered tap. it worked great. Run some old oil through just in case you threw something up there when drilling. I had the drill bit but ordered the tap.
41/64 is fairly common. Be sure you use a tap wrench.
Did jiffy lube offer to pay for the repair?
