Anybody ever dealt with rv hookups. I have rv hookups on my KJ. I tried to take them off once to install tow hooks, but I have no clue how they even got to the spots to get hook ups on! There are I think 5 bolts. 1 is way back in the bumper and one looks like I'd have to take the tire off to get to it. I thought about putting a regular tow hook into the slot and putting a heavy duty bolt in the back. Think that is a good idea or not?

Here is a pic of the hook in the rv hookup slot.

You have to take the front bumper off and then get the correct hooks for the front of the KJ. They go in the same holes as your tow bar and take three bolts on each hook. this thread tells you how to take off the bumper.

if you have any difficulties or confusion with the tow hook installation or removal of the front fascia, look in the KK section for diggers tow hook thread the KK's have the same tow hooks, or look in the fabrication thread for my 3 bolt front recovery thread or one of the other front recovery threads in there and you should be able to figure it out easily if not feel free to ask!

I've taken the bumper off quite a few times now, that is cake. My problem is getting the rv hookups off. It is a huge bracket with bolts back in the frame somehow. I'm just wondering if the hook in the rv slots with a bolt behind it would hold it in case of a tow situation.

Or has anyone heard of of tow hooks that fit into the rv hookups when your not hooked to an rv? I don't own an rv and don't ever plan on hooking up to one. :D

I'm half tempted to suggest to get some heavy iron or steel and push it into the slot, weld it on the front and back, drill a hole in the side of it towards the business end, and put a clevis ring on it

I don't really know what to tell you safety wise as far as putting standard bolt down (wrangler style or other) tow hook through it and putting a a bolt through the rear to retain it but I may be misunderstanding you on that aspect

is the RV hook in the standard location for a tow hook? it kind of looks like it is

if the bracket wraps around the front chassis under the radiator than it's bracketed up better than standard tow hooks as long as it's bracketed strongly on the section of chassis that runs lengthwise with your vehicle

back to you brad

I would not want to use a hook with just one bolt holding it on. The directions I used to put on my front hitch were for hooking up a RV tow point. Sounds like you have somthing sombody made on there have you got any better pics. I think that thing has to come off to put the hooks on correctly.

Thanks Jeepin, in other news..........lol

I had a guy suggest we put the Wrangler style hook in the slot and tack weld it in front and back.

You are correct on using the wrangler style hook in the slot and putting a strong bolt in back. The last hole in the hook sticks out just far enough to get a bolt and nut on it. It just wasn't sure on strength.

Yes the bracket is right where the tow hooks go.

Now onto sports with Jeepin....lol

p.s. I see you live in Chapel Hill, NC. I'm a HUGE Heels and Nascar. I'm making my first trip to NC in July. Land in Charlotte, going to Mooresville to see Jr Motorsports and DEI then onto Wilmington to stay at a beach house for a few days. I'm stoked!

Yeah I wasn't sure about using 1 bolt either. Maybe using the bolt and some welds?

It is an actual RV hookup. Can't remember the brand. I'm at work now, I'll have to check my pics when I get home. I know I took some of the hookups to show members of my jeep club. But they are all wranglers and XJ's. Here atleast everyone knows the ins and outs of Libby's

I live in St. Joseph. About 60mins north of KC. I go to qualifying every year at KS Speedway. I have been to one Cup race. The one Newman won in '03. Got tix for the truck race in April but didn't get to see much racing due to the rain and tornadoes!

I live in Orange County, home of orange county speedway, fastest 3/8ths in the nation, it's banked like one of those hotwheels electric race car dealys

I haven't really been to any races there since they stopped racing tractors (tractor trailer's with no trailer)

That junk was a FUN race to go see

anyway, i'm not a fan of tack welds, only thing i use tacks for is holding something together until i complete the welds or for test fitting purposes

hard to tell in the picture, but.. it looks like you could make an 1/4 inch slice down the side where the hook goes through, put your hook in, pull it against the slice, tack it in place and weld your seam to the hook

if you get even a decent meld down the seam to the hook with the tack welds topped off the hook will either break, or pull your chassis out before it comes entirely out of the bracket

more than likely the hook would break first, the same technique with a A36 steel bar with a clevis ring in the end of it would be less likely to fail and leave you with the situation of starting over with figuring out how to remove the RV bracket and would be more suitable to a permanent solution
