I have been using mobil 1 for the last 3 oil changes. My light came on just shy of 3k miles.
Any ideas why? I drive conservatively and thought it wouldn't warn me for a while longer.
Nice rides by the way guys. Great mods, great ideas, Great times.

Did you ever put it in 4WD Low? Mine seems to trigger right at 3,000 if I use 4WD Low, even if only for a few minutes. I guess it assumes harsh conditions and prompts me to get it changed at the shortest interval. If I don't use Low, then it usually goes the full 6,000 miles before alerting me.

Just ignore it ... Turn the ignition to ON (don't crank it over) pump the gas pedal 5 times within 10 sec and then turn the key OFF. Start the truck and the warning should turn off.

something else to consider is what it rest properly?

ALot of times the oil thing is just based on mileage, there actually istn' anything smart enough to sample the oil condition for the change status.

it is a proven fact natrual oil or anything with natural oil the detergents are gone in 3000 miles

Jon, what type of oil filter are you using? Reason I ask is not so much for the light, that thing is just dumb, but I see that you are using Mobil 1 and I was just wondering if you are using a Mobil 1 filter. I use Mobil 1 and a Mobil 1 filter and I go about every 12K with my oil changes.

In regards to the light ... I've had mine come on after 3K, 5K and 8K ... It varies. Mine just came on over the weekend and I had 5,500 since my last change. The change before that it came on after 8K.

Its not a light ... Its a message on your info dash, where your temp and compass is. It's say your due for an oil change. If your CEL comes on then you might have a problem somewhere ...

Have not used low range this oil change cycle

I have been having the dealership do the oil change and bootyume they use the oem filter.

Yes it was reset properly at last oil change.

Can't ignore it, paranoid about voiding the warranty by longer intervals!

I live in Traverse city, many great trails I have yet to venture on. Need skids, front hook, and good tires.

Here is a private trail just southwest of town, http://dustersoffroadclub.com/20.html

Might take the kids there for a ride this summer.

Can't wait for the cold front tonight!

Jon

Extending you oil change intervals will NOT void your warranty. If you are changing you oil every 3K and using Mobil 1 you are waisting your money. Mobil 1 and Mobil 1 Extended Performance are designed to extended you oil change to 12-15K when used in conjunction with a Mobil 1 oil filter. I change my oil every 12K using Mobil 1 oil and filter. I have a family member with a Lexus LX470 who changed his oil every 12-15K using Mobil 1 oil and filter and at 250,000 miles the truck still runs strong!

Just turn the light off, it is NOT accurate as to when you need to change you oil. I've have my light come on 3K, 5K and 8K after oil changes. My light just came on with 5,500 on my last oil change.

If you want to keep your warranty,I wouldnt go more the 6k with synthetic, and 3k for conventional,if you read your manual it say you must change your oil at 6k even if you use synthetic.oil.It would be a shame to ruin your lifetime warranty when you dont follow manufactors recommendations.Your warranty is with Chrysler, not Mobil 1

3k for regular oil is a myth that people get stuck in there head...standard oil won't break down in 3k miles, not even in 5k miles.

mobile 1 or Amsoil are the only 2 oils i use, i change my oil once a year...there is NO need to change your oil more than that with synthetic oil...companies are stuck in the past with the 3k mile rule and most people don't know any better.

Do what you want, you wont have a warranty. You cant make up your own rules.Chrysler makes the rules. You didnt read your manual or warranty did you? Most people dont know any better?I was a mechanic for 25 years,I think I know better. You people put to much faith in synthetic.Todays engine run hotter then the old days.I feel sorry for your engine.

old days as in what the 60s? 70s? as of the 80s we are in the same temperature ranges as todays standards. more importantly oil protection has advanted a ton in the past 30 years...so that point has no bearing on this.

you can think what you want, i;ll go by the facts rather than someones opinion...never had an issue with a motor before, and doubt i will ever have one. But hey if something happens so be it, i rebuild the motor, not a difficult process :D

but then again my warranty won't be effected, so i;m not concerned.

Yes it can, more so now that uncle sam is footing the warranty bill. You should never go beyond 6000miles on your oil,any oil, without 1st doing a oil analysis 1st to be sure the oil is still good and then keep doing a oil analysis every 3000 miles after.Just going 12,000 miles because a label say's you can just means you are another sucker that believes everything you are told.If your engine goes they will do a oil analysis.

Yes your engine warranty is already gone because you didnt read your manual. How many engines did you ever rebuild? After warranty you can do what you want, during warranty, your suppose to go by what the manufactors says, not your oil.quote from manual under no circumstances should oil change intervals exceed 6k or 6 months whichever comes first.see you have no engine warranty right now.people should read their manuals

tjkj2002 has the best point.

This is what will save you or break you.
if you extent your oil changes, then do what he says.
THis will leave you with a paper trial to prove your points.

if you fail to prove the oil was good, you will loose a warranty battle.

Let say some will change at 6K and other will not.

You have all been warned....

Yes oil has change allot in 30 years.
