Good Headunit??

So far I've got

1 for Kenwood
2 for Alpine
1 for Sony

Hmm.. I'd like a little more response before I decide..

Hey Mr. Audiophile how about you do a little research on your own instead of waiting for someone on here to do all the work for you. If you really cared about "the bass response" and you want the best because your an "Audiophile" then you need to start looking at the technical specs of the radios. You want something good so your audiophile ears are in audiophile heaven then you need to fork over some money.

Here is an example the Alpine CDA-9887
Specs:
- Subwoofer Level Adjustment: -15dB to 0dB (1dB steps)
- Bass Center Frequency: 60/80/100/200Hz (Selectable)
- Bass Band Width Adjustment (Q): 4 choices (1 =wide, 4 =narrow)

This is a good "Audiophile" head unit. It has a lots of custom tuning to get the sound you want and the "response" you want from the bass.

Also since we are doing all the work for you, it would really help if you told us a BUDGET!!!

hmm.. considering what I was told yesterday all I'm gonna say is this: I have done some work Mike08Liberty if you would please re-read all the posts you would clearly see that I have posted a link to something I was looking at to get responses back my young padawan. However if you think that the Alpine is the right unit then I will chalk you down for an Alpine. Thank you.

young padawan ... I'm older then you KID. Your a joke. You claim to be an Audiophile and you want something with great bass response and then you post a $169 rock bottom head unit. Which you can actually get the head unit alone on eBay for less then $150. You are far from an Audiophile and you have a lot to learn.

And before you open your mouth again here is my old Scion that I built a few years back. YES, I did the whole audio/video install from start to finish. You want Audiophile, here ya go

What you need to learn as you "chalk" me down for an Alpine, its not a matter of brand but the MODELS within the brand. The rock bottom Pioneer SUCKS! You want the best you need to pay for the best. If not then just walk into your local Best Buy and buy what ever the cheapest crap they have sitting on the sales floor.

I had a Sony in my Camry and it had great sound. I have a Kenwood in my KJ and it sounds great. Hard to compare when the speakers make all the difference in output and different speakers with different head units changes everything.

Go to Crutchfield and look at the units they have there and look at the specs. They may not have all or the best units available but you get a great number of them and can compare units.

i know i aready said i got an alpine, but here is the real deal here...goto a best buy, check out some head units to see what you think would look good in the libby too...it is more about personal preference but they all have their quirks

all head units have there quirks including the alpines, but they are no nonsense, all business and very clean looking.

and for what it's worth, I'd never own a Sony even if my life depended on it, but that's just me.

I had a pioneer deck first in my old truck and i personally didn't like it, it always skipped on cd's the aux jack quit after a couple months, and the screen died after only like 6 months, kinda ruined me on pioneers. I bought a Sony gt 200 (I think) deck after that and actually liked it, it had good sound and was easy to use.

The main reason i went with this kenwood this time was because of that audio processor, if your using ipod, or mp3/acc cd's the Digital to Analog 24 bit converter really makes a difference. Plus I'd pay attention to the EQ, that pioneer unit you found only has 3 band equalizer which is fine, but i prefer 7 or better just for more speaker tweeking.

And I've never owned an Alpine but everyone raves about them. Alpine and kenwood seem to be the top two competitors in the market right now for top end Head units. Really it is just personal preference, It took me months to find this unit that had everything i want and looked good. Oh and I checked, mine cost 199.99 not 169.99.

Someone recommended looking at all the HU's on crutchfield, I would highly recommend that, even call them it's free. Their sales people can walk you though the specs and recommend the unit you need based on your budget and requirements. I think I called them 3 or 4 times asking about different items.

I have that unit also CDA-9887. Also replaced my stock speakers with alpines :O. Really nice crisp sound.

i have type r components up front powered by an alpine t220 amp, type s 2-ways in the rear and a 12" old school alpine sub power by an alpine m300 amp. no complaints here!

Well now time for my 2 cents..... :twisted:

... I still have stock set up in the libby so no such help there buuuuuuuutt in my personal experience I dummed down my head units because I found that with to many adjustment came to much time mucking with it and I was still never happy thus I went with the KISS method of selecting head units, the Kenwood I have has been the most impressive for me. Also good freq response is the name of the game...your speakers will make the most audible difference, with a good set of speakers just about any head unit will do..I personally like the Alpine S series..... Just my 2 cents though

Lol, that's funny, the Alpine "S" is my next upgrade.... you know after i pay off the lift and tires.... and at least another good chunk on the truck it's self.... ok so it's more of a dream right now but someday?

OK Ok story time.... a long long time ago....ok well not that long ago.... I had a buddy who bought and expensive set of home tower speakers with 15" woofers in them and I bought these small ones from radio shack on clearance for $14 for the pair.. I bought mine because of frequency response and they had 5.25 woofers in them.. he had a panasonic stereo and mine was...well optimus (radio shack again) we decided to crank our stereo's up to see who's was better and mine won hands down (I still have the set up)........Moral of the story bigger is not always better and more expensive is not always better....also remember speakers will sound different in your kj from what they sound like in the store....hope this helps
