There is actually a very good write on the AEM Intake done by SilverKK
http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hp?t=39993

I'm sure we can get him to update it and add that you need to buy the intake kit for the Nitro. As to the gauge of wire you can let us know when to do the install but again, 16-18 gauge will work fine.

Yeah, sorry. I meant to add to SilverKK's post about the writeup. It is a very good writeup and in a lot of detail. This is what I intend to follow doing my installation. I just thought it might be a good idea to add the other info in his writeup. Just a thought.

I also have another question that hopefully you guys can answer. I see a few signatures around here that have new exhaust or mufflers of some kind. The ones I see are Magnaflow or Flowmaster (not sure if they are the same). I was wondering if there is any benefit for doing this other than that of the beefy more throaty sound. Is there any type of performance increase? Also what exactly do you guys replace when doing this? The entire exhaust system or just a section of it?

Thanks guys for the input. Sorry for the newb questions :D

One more....how does the Scan Gauge II hook up to the inside of your car? Or how does it hook up? Detailed information would be appreciated as I am considering buying one since I don't have EVIC on my KK. Also...is this the ScanGaugeII you guys are referring to?

Dear outsiderwv,

Most exhaust mods are from the CAT back to the tail pipe.
You add in larger diameter pipe that is also lighter with less bends if possible. Note... if you go to large it has a bad affect.

Magnaflow and Flowmaster are 2 differant companies. Both make great products.

The Scan Gauge unit all plug into the OBDE II port on the inside of any Jeep, car, or truck from 1996 to current. They are all 100% the same connectors. This is a Federal law.

Also these are good queston to ask now, before you spend money.

Most aftermarket Exhuast system can help free up some HP. But it is harder and harder on newer and newer models.
The biggest issue the KK and other Jeeps have is the motors are just a bit to week to start with. personaly I feel these motor should of had 260 or more HP at the wheel. They should also get 25 to 30 MPG as well.
This is possible as other SUV do this already.. but they have 7 speed trannies..... Oh well this is a personal issue i have with Jeeps.

So you are saying the exhaust mod really won't help a whole lot? I don't want my KK being really loud, so if this is the case I may skip this mod. Does the Jet Stage 2 chip require any modifications other than an air intake?

Also where is the connection for the scan gauge II located inside the KK?

Thanks again for all the quick responses.

My writeup has been updated.
And for those inquiring about the scangauge, I think that it pays for itself.... the ability to clear error codes from the computer is an awesome feature.
I triggered my IAT sensor a couple of times (yeah, im dumb) while installing my intake... if it wasnt for the scangauge, I would have had to go to the dealer a couple of times
regards!

Just look under the dashboard
the connector should look like this:

every other car has it.... and the scan gauge IIcan be used on multiple cars

Almost every auto will benifit from a better exhuast.
But some get more HP and TQ than others.

What some poeple do is take there auto to a shop and have it put on a Dyno. this can measure the HP and torque output at the wheels.
Then they add mods and re-test.
This is the only true way to know, how much power you are adding.

I do not know enough KK owners who have done this. Please post your dyno results so we have them please.

From what Mike has told us about JET chips. I can say adding a better flowing Intake, and exhuast along with a Stage 2 chip, you will get the most out of your Jeep. without doing spending to much money.

Jet ship is like $229 to $300 if you look around. i think, big quess
Exhuast could run $150 to $600 installed. prices will vary
Intakes system $40 to 400 installed. Price will vary

The lower cost is you doing the work and fabercating the parts your self.

Please research and keep asking question, it helps us all out.

The main thing you will notice with the JET chip is smoother and quicker shifting. It will give you a little boost in performance but the biggest advantage is the better shifting. If you listen to what JET recommends for the Stage II chip you will want to have Intake, Exhaust and run 91 octane or higher gas. I have Intake and Exhaust and I run 93 octane gas.
If you want to get the JET chip get it from AutoAnything ... They have the best price around. That is where I got mine from.
http://www.autoanything.com/performance ... 55056.aspx

A Scan Gauge II is a good tool to have for clearing codes and reading data. I can tell you that will all the mods I have, I have NOT thrown any check engine lights. I also had thrown an Intake Sensor light because of my mistake but other then that, NO lights!

Any exhaust you do will for the most part have to be custom made. I'm not sure (i could be wrong because I haven't check in a long time) that anyone makes a bolt on kit for our truck yet. I when to a local muffler shop and bought a Magnaflow muffler and had them custom fab a cat-back system. The longer the muffler the quieter it will be, also the less performance you will get out of it. Any muffler shop can recommend a good muffler based on what you want out of it.
An exhaust system will open up the exhaust flow and give a boost in power and gas mileage. A good Intake and Exhaust combo can help with gas mileage and give a little boost in performance.

** DISCLAIMER ... Don't expect to break any land speed records with your Liberty. It is VERY slow to begin with. YES you can get a little more out of it but it's limited. Depending on factory options like skid plates and tow package your truck could be even slower right out of the gate. A base model Liberty with just about NOTHING on it runs about a 10 sec 0-60. Mine as an example which has full skid plates, full tow package, leather powered seats, 18" upgraded rims + all my mods runs about 9 sec 0-60. As you can see weight will slow it down even more then it already is. [/list]

How much louder does the exhaust make the KK sound?

Each muffler will sound different. Sound will vary depending on size and even brand. I like Magnaflow and mine isn't very loud. When I'm cruising on the highway you can't hear it over the radio. When you get on the gas you can hear it but you will hear the intake even more.
As I said above, you need to go and talk to a muffler shop if you want to get exhaust done. They can tell you which muffler will fit your needs best.

I also think that this information would be good to have in the KK tech writeup as well...such as gauge of wire and the fact that you must use an 07 Dodge Nitro AEM Brute Force Kit. I will install soon and take some pics.

FYI, while I was at my dealership yesterday (picking up some additional rear spring isolators to raise the back up a little more), I asked the parts guy about the Mopar cold air intake that has been shown on the back of the 09 Jeep Liberty Accessories Catalog since last fall. He thought he'd seen them in his master catalog. After he looked again, he couldn't find it and said it appears Jeep still doesn't actually offer the Cold Air Intake for the KK Liberty.

Just sharing updated info.

Double check to make sure you don't have to extend it. I have an 08 liberty and I had to splice the sensor and extend it. I think my 08 liberty was a conversion point in the line. Caught me by surprise but luckly I had the tools and materials to extend the sensor.

I disagree with that. That's why Jeep gives you a Limited 36,000 mile Warranty or a Limited Lifetime Powertrain Warranty.

I believe, if you read the Magnuson-Moss Act, you will find that the word "Limited" in front of the word Warranty means that it does not meet the federal requirements of a warranty and therefore doesn't fall under any special federal warranty requirements.

Did you ever wonder why they called it a Limited Lifetime Powertrain Warranty, or a Limited 36,000 Mile Bumper to Bumper Warranty?

However, in this case, since the factory basically sells the exact same part as a user installed option, I doubt they would say that it voided your warranty.
