If you want to keep your warranty,I wouldnt go more the 6k with synthetic, and 3k for conventional,if you read your manual it say you must change your oil at 6k even if you use synthetic.oil.It would be a shame to ruin your lifetime warranty when you dont follow manufactors recommendations.Your warranty is with Chrysler, not Mobil 1

3k for regular oil is a myth that people get stuck in there head...standard oil won't break down in 3k miles, not even in 5k miles.

mobile 1 or Amsoil are the only 2 oils i use, i change my oil once a year...there is NO need to change your oil more than that with synthetic oil...companies are stuck in the past with the 3k mile rule and most people don't know any better.

Do what you want, you wont have a warranty. You cant make up your own rules.Chrysler makes the rules. You didnt read your manual or warranty did you? Most people dont know any better?I was a mechanic for 25 years,I think I know better. You people put to much faith in synthetic.Todays engine run hotter then the old days.I feel sorry for your engine.

old days as in what the 60s? 70s? as of the 80s we are in the same temperature ranges as todays standards. more importantly oil protection has advanted a ton in the past 30 years...so that point has no bearing on this.

you can think what you want, i;ll go by the facts rather than someones opinion...never had an issue with a motor before, and doubt i will ever have one. But hey if something happens so be it, i rebuild the motor, not a difficult process :D

but then again my warranty won't be effected, so i;m not concerned.

Yes your engine warranty is already gone because you didnt read your manual. How many engines did you ever rebuild? After warranty you can do what you want, during warranty, your suppose to go by what the manufactors says, not your oil.quote from manual under no circumstances should oil change intervals exceed 6k or 6 months whichever comes first.see you have no engine warranty right now.people should read their manuals

i;ve personally built 2 motors and helped my buddy build his...motor in my mustang was run hard and raced for 40k miles before i sold the car, had only 6 oil changes in that motor, not one issue.

i;m not worried about my warranty cause its still there, i;ve only owned my truck for 3 months, can't say what the previous owner did. also i only drive about 8k miles a year...which is almost half of what mobile one backs their product for.

i;ve said it before and i;ll say it again, the 3k rule is a myth and modern oils are good and protect for much longer than in the past, which is what people don't understand. Hence why mobile 1 guarantees their product for 15k miles or 1 year.

you can go on thinking what you want, in the end its your opinion vs mine...

You cant have a warranty if you dont follow the rules. What makes you special that you can do what you want and still think your going to have a warranty? You are a lost cause. To bad you blew away lifetime warranty. You still didnt read your manual ,if you did you know I'm right,6k or 6 months, thats the rules live it,or lose your warranty.

Another Quote from 08KK manual page 417 "You may use synthetic oils provided the recommended oil quality requirements are met,and the recommended maintenance intervals for oil and filter changes are followed. As you can see Chrysler could care less what your oil bottle says, you still need to follow the manual.Chrysler cant make it more clear.

THAT'S WHY YOU DON'T TAKE IT TO THE DEALER FOR AN OIL CHANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its all a matter of OPINION!!! I change my oil every 12K you will never change my mind. My family has been in the oil business for 20 years. I have national reps for ExxonMobil, Valvoline and Petro Canada on speed dial on my phone. I've have seen more oil analysis tests then you can imagine ... Using Mobil 1 or Mobil 1 Extended Performance and a Mobil 1 oil filter you can change your intervals to 12-15K or once a year.

From Mercedes Benz USA (all AMG cars are Factory Filled with Mobil 1)

"Required Service Work
Serviced at 10,000 miles or 1 year
Engine Oil and Filter Change"

"Required Service Work
Serviced at 20,000 miles or 2 years
Engine Oil and Filter"

Should I go on?

From Porsche (all cars are Factory Filled with Mobil 1)

2008+ 911 Turbo, GT2 & GT3 - 12,000 Miles or 1 Year
2008+ Boxster S - 12,000 Miles or 1 Year
2008+ Cayenne Turbo S - 12,000 Miles or 1 Year

Should I go on?

I think if these 500+ HP cars that can cost over $100,000 can change their oil every 10-12K or 1 year AND ITS PRINTED IN THEIR MANUAL then I think we will be OK in our Jeeps.

Yeah but those $100,000+ vehicles have better quality control in production then a $20,000 Jeep.

Did you read my post, its not my opinion its Chrysler.Like Chrysler says to keep your warranty you must go by their schedule, not yours. You no longer have a warranty on your engine from Chrysler,so if something happens to your engine, you better hope your oil company pays the bill.I just want to say nobody should take your advice, unless they dont mind throwing away a lifetime warranty. You dont have a Mercedes or a Boxster,Cayenne, you have a Jeep, you dont have those car warranty you have a Chrysler warranty.Maybe you can get someone to read you manual for you, because you seem to have a hard time understanding simple thing.

like i said its all YOUR OPINION, some retard who wrote the manual stated the intervals without actually doing research. so thank you but no, i trust my own research.

if something occurs to my motor, they CAN'T DENY MY WARRANTY UNLESS THEY CAN PROVE THE OIL WAS THE ISSUE!

tjkj2002 - price and quality are a moot point, tolerances are all relative for production cars *within reason of course*...under regular driving conditions, 1 change a year on production cars is perfectly fine. Now if you race your vehicle then you should change it more or for our cases if you go offroading a bunch then yes you should change it more frequently.

If you show receipt that shows you change your oil once a year, they will laugh at you as they should. You have a comprehension problem. You dont think that you can have a engine problem, and they have no record of any oil changes, they will ask you for proof. My guess is you never had a new vehicle and never dealt with warranties.Plus it doesnt matter were you get you oil changes, you have to show proof. If you Think Chrysler is going to spend big bucks to fix your vehicle without you showing proof that you went by their schedule, your fooling yourself.Im not saying what you say is not true, but you must follow the rules,or lose warranty, its that simple.6k or 6 months.Chrysler cant make it more simple, yet you still having problems understanding this.

Here is an example,One time couple months ago when I was at the dealer,a customer had a rear axle problem,It would have been under warranty, but the customer couldnt show proof on maintenance, they refused warranty, and customer had to pay. They can deny warranty,I seen it happen.Plus Chrysler being in dire straits, will be more incline to deny warranties. They use to be liberal with warranties, but times have changed.

Actually price and quality have alot to do with it.A Porsche 911 engine has more precise tolerance then our 3.7 will ever have, better materials also and from the fact the special oil required will outlast in the most extreme conditions then what you normally find a wallmart and other places.Figure a Ferrari Enzo runs about $700-$800 for a oil change, granted it holds 15qts,and that price is just for the oil/filter which is not your Mobil1 or Amsoil either.

just drop it dude...you aren't gonna convince me to change so you can stop preaching...you are oldschool in your ways of thinking about it, which is fine for you...i for one will do what i've been doing for years without any issue, and won't change because there is no point in doing so when i'm not hurting the vehicle AT ALL...

thank you and goodbye.

tjkj - 30k mustang cobra, hand built motor = very precise motor which can take tons of abuse and lots of power, price isn't always an indicator of precision...

ferrari is a luxury and you pay for it...thats why i don't put those low production style cars into arguments.

tjkj - The Ferrari Enzo uses Shell Helix Ultra 10w-60 and only takes 12 quarts if you want to get technical. It's also a V12. The Shell Helix is not "better" then Mobil 1 ... Shell just paid more money to get them to use their oil. Mobil 1 has more then enough factory fills. (inculding a few Chrysler cars)
http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/Mot ... bil_1.aspx

richd - please show me when the last time someones engine failed using a Synthetic Oil who changed it every 12K or 1 Year and they had less then 100K on the engine. You couldn't be more wrong about the warranty. Chrysler needs all the customers they can get right now. They would NOT do anything to hurt their chances for you to be a return customer or recommend them to a friend. IF by some fluke your engine failed I will guarantee you had more problems then changing your oil every 12K or 1 year.

Like I said above, my family has been in the oil business for 20 years and I have seen oil test done on many different cars. Even a quality brand conventional oil won't start to really break down until about 6K depending on driving conditions.

Do want every you want I will continue to change my oil every 12K without thinking about it. I've have seen the tests and seen the proof that says I will be perfectly fine doing that. AND I won't be losing any warranty... THANKS!

Funny... my "change oil" indicator just turned in. I changed my oil back in march 11th....
Back then I had 2547 miles I now have 5888 miles....

I really got confused with this topic because there are A LOT of opinions... So I guess Ill do mine:

Call me crazy but Im going to comply with my vehicle's warning.... I always take it to the dealer because in case something goes wrong I have someone to blame.
My dealer charges me 25 bucks for the air and oil filter change... (oil included of course) so its not a bad deal after all.

Back when I had my charger R/T I used royal purple oil... and I could tell the difference... my engine sounded better..... I changed my oil BUT I always had the feeling that I did something wrong... (which in fact I never did!) So I decided that I rather pay someone else to do the job so that I could have peace of mind.

Regarding the oil change intervals, I guess it all depends on your decision.... I know people who change their tires every 20,000 miles.....I know people who have never changed a set on their cars in 5 years... and you can ask them why they do that and both parties will have strong arguments.......

just my .02 cents

I'm going to stay out of this one.... The only thing I will offer is do what you fell is best for you. We can have 100 responses to a question, BUT does that make any of the 100 post correct, NO. How often , when you do, what oil you use, and why are all up to the owner is his and or hers said jeep. Also, how you drive your vehicle and the outside conditions also differ........ The best way to determine the condition of the oil is to do a oil analysis....

Mine is in 12k (km) so that is 7.5k Miles, and I'm sure the UK/europe spec will be different again.
