So when I get my lift installed, I'm going with my friend to his uncle. He is helping both me and my friend (my friend's graduation present) install our lifts. My friend has a 02 TJ. I was just curious how difficult it is to make and install some rear bumpstops out of hockey pucks. Because it's his present, and not mine, they are simply doing this out of kindness... And saving me a bunch of $. I don't want to show up with a bunch of annoying work for them to do, because I'm basically getting a free ride out of this!

Also, I'm not very crafty with cars, infact I've never worked on them at all. His uncle is going to have us help install the lift, which I'm excited about so I can learn a lot more about my Jeep. I've actually learned a lot already from this forum :) . And also, if worst comes to worst, how hard would they be to make and install by myself, if the work is to annoying for his uncle? I've read a write up, but I'm just curious of the time and difficulty.

Thanks guys.

Rear bumps stops? I epoxied some for my rear bump stops and it took maybe....5 min, lol. Mix-apply-stick....your done. I am going to add 2 more since I only used 1 on each side originally. Super easy...not sure how well they will hold up with snow it that is a factor. Mine have been on for just over a year now and no problamo.;)

Do they install that easily too? Either for me or my friend's uncle. I know that just kind of glueing the hocky pucks together wouldn't be too hard, haha, but the installation I was kind of confused about.

Oh, and yes I will be up in the mountains all throughout college, and it snows A LOT.

Snow won't hurt the hockey pucks...and sand / salt hasn't changed how well they are attached to my car. i have one on each side and I used an industrial strength glue (comes in a caulking type tube).

Still better if you can drill them on....but if they fall off, you can always glue on some more.

Makes sense, if snow hurt them they wouldn't be very good for hockey... But is that all it takes really? 5 minutes?

More or less. Just depends on the type of adhesive you use and the set time. Super easy...simple stupid easy tbh.

I would think cleaning/prepping the area would take longer. Cleaner/prepped area makes for a better and longer stick.

I personaly wouldn't and didn't glue mine, you'll have to remove them in order to change out your coils down the road.

I drilled a hole through the center of each hockey puck to accomodate a 1/2' diameter bolt. I drilled a 1" diameter hole half way through the top puck so that the bolt head is counter sunk into the puck. Then you drill a hole in the coil mount to accomodate the 1/2" bolt (this is the hardest part, a right angle drill comes in handy, but it can be done with out. Once your rear coils are installed then slip each puck through the coil individually. Stack the pucks on top of each other and ontop of the mount, slide the bolt through a lock washer, then reg washer, slide the bolt down through the pucks, start the nut under the coil mount and tighten from the top.

You need 2 bolts, 4 reg washers, 2 lock washers. Bolt length and number of pucks will depend on the lift (1 puck per inch). Some have used carriage bolts, but this requires you to tighten at the nut on the bottom which is a much harder reach. I personally used a regular bolt, started the nut at the bottom, then used a pair of needle nose plyers to hold the nut while I tightened the bolt from the top.

Entire process from drilling the pucks to finished install, about an hour, and that's including breaks for wobbly pops.

Glue them on with RTV sealant. Mine have been on for almost a year and aren't going anywhere. RTV comes off easily if I need to remove them for any reason. Epoxy would make them pretty hard to get loose.

An hour for bolting it on, seems like quite a task. Haha. I might just glue them, for time purposes. These will be going on at the same time as the lift, if that changes anything. Thanks for all of the help guys, I will ask my friend's uncle which option he wants to roll with.

Actually the hour includes the coil install as well, since first you have to drill the coil mount, then install the coil, then install and bolt the pucks.

Oh okay, so not too long I suppose. I will give it a go. And not to go off topic, but how nice are those Skyjacker Hydro/Nitro shocks? Pretty cheap price, hopefully that doesnt reflect the quality compared to Ranchos.

I haven't had any issues with them as yet. I do take the jeep wheeling, and they have stood up to the task. However I only have them because the rear shocks came with my original OTT lift, I replaced the OTT with a coil lift but kept the original rear shocks. When it is time to replace what I have I will definately be going with OME and rancho to match the front.

most of the people on this forum who run suspension lifts run OME i can personally attest to the strength of the shock and the smooth ride feel ... skyjackers are good on large vehicles... they feel to stiff for a vehicle the size of a libby ... everyone i know whos run them on a libby, wrangler, or sammy got rid of them after like 2 months of hard wheeling on them

Ranchos are the better choice to go with if you dont get OME
